Can someone explain to me Morey's "shrewd" moves he made today?

    I read this from a DreamShake article:

    Can someone explain to me what these minimum contracts mean as far as the salary cap and trade flexibility is concerned and why exactly July 1st matters and why it is "exploitation"?

    How is this different from normal run-of-the-mill salary filler moves?

    It pretty much says it all in that last paragraph.

    After July 1 the new NBA year starts and the new CBA provisions regarding the value of unguaranteed contracts in trades goes into effect.
    By doing all this before the end of the current CBA, he ensured that the non-guaranteed contracts have value in trades.

    What are you having trouble with?

    a simpler way of looking at it is that all Morey moves are "shrewd" moves in quote marks by definition. Pretty easy to remember. ;) :D

    The "shrewd" moves Morey pulled off are beyond my understanding ... so I am not going to pretend that understand them and explain them to you.

    In short, he acquired a bunch of non-guaranteed fringe players with cash (probably less than their yearly salary) to make up in and out salary gap in the CP3 trade.
