    Well... he is an all-star??

Not sure what to tell you... the biggest downfall to DJ is his contract. Then of course his FT shooting, which can become a real issue. But what he gives you rebounding and defense and efficient 2 point scoring.. is like Capela at an all star level.

And beside which, Blake is clearly an all-star, and Reddick is a consistent 43%+ shooter (guy shot 48% form three 2 years ago.... 48%!!), and they've had offense off the bench in Crawford, etc. Do they have holes? Absolutely, they're not the Warriors, lol.

I'm not as close to it as you are geographically, but to me the Clippers problem has been Doc as much as anything - way too much structure on top of structure on top of structure with Doc and CP3. They're too aligned in almost a bad way. They don't play with the freedom of a GSW, Cavs, Rockets, etc.

But in any case, there's been a ton of talent there and they've obviously way under-performed that talent.

Why do you think there's so much smoke around CP3 when the Rockets have much bigger problems at the forward position, specifically PF, considering how much Ryno sucked in the playoffs and the fact that they consistently have problems at that position in terms of defense and rebounding??

More to the point, if you asked most fans to rank the rockets weaknesses by position at the end of the year, you'd go weakest to strongest something like this
    PF
    SF
    C
    Bench generally
    SG
    PG

PG would be your last problem issue. Just factually since Harden was moved to point and it "worked".

Absolutely we agree, grab a "star" when you can. But it's just weird.

Boom. @YOLO at least understands that Harden has to be willing to play alongside another primary playmaker for us to have any chance of winning a title with Harden.

he might be an "all star" but his impact on the court in reality isn't to the level of what a true all star is. Take mike conley for example. this guy has yet to be rewarded with an all star appearance when he absolutely has been one for years. hes had winning seasons and some playoff success year after year. If you're telling me DJ is a true "all star" compared to someone and impacts the game positively as like MC then sorry I will never agree with that.

His rebounding his inflated. I don't really care if he averages double figure rebounds. its by team design. hes surrounded by guys that aren't strong rebounders. if you're impressed with that then thats you. his defense while solid isn't the difference in stopping these elite teams in the league. he isn;t stopping the likes of GS, Clev, SA from scoring. and now that hou has surpassed the clips, we see he doesn't stop us from scoring either. Efficient 2 pt scoring. hmmm dunking the ball playing off someone else isn't all star reward caliber. literally has no offensive moves whatsoever. his "allstar" birth is a product of terrible front court depth in the league. that's what it basically comes down to. Blake is an all star yes but nothing more. Reddick belongs in the same category as just another "good/solid" player. who also cannot be relied upon in the playoffs. Crawford is who he is. Volume scorer just like there version of a lou williams. People think the Clippers had this high level talent but it was extremely name driven without much actual star level impact.

I want to watch this dude in the fastest pace Offense though, haha, the younger CP3 would be much better. I am not picky atm.

a younger more vicious cp3 would be just ridiculous but i definitely wouldn't mind a mature, level headed, paced cp3 either. dont forget this guy dunked on dwight howard back then lol

Why are people assuming that just because we grab CP3, we won't be upgrading the 4 spot? Our offense was fine in the playoffs. What was NOT fine is the lack of a playmaker when Harden SITS. Then we are reduced to trying to up our pace to catch the D off guard or chuck a bunch of threes and hope someone gets hot. CP3 ABSOLUTELY helps with that problem. We have people who can score when provided the opportunity. We NEED someone to provide them that opportunity and CP3 would be amazing for that.

I don't really want to get into a discussion about DJ on this thread and derail it. Truth is I honestly don't have a great fee for his "real" impact. Cause as I said on the one hand, the FT issue is real and this is 2017. On the other hand, there have been plenty of REBOUND+DEFENSE only guy's who can still effectively put he ball in the basket around the rim historically who's value was clear. Dennis Rodman, Ben Wallace types. Inflated or not, DJ is now on his 4th straight year of 13.6+ rpg. He's on his 5th straight year leading the league in FG%, the last two at nearly 13 ppg. He's been at, around 2 bpg for most of his career. He's been all defensive 1st team the last two years and probably this year, and all nba three times. All of that is "inflated" because of the dearth of classic big men in the NBA, and the value of all of that is really hard to gauge, because of the way the NBA is today... but as I said the biggest issues with him are his contract and his ft% shooting.

In any case, it seems like you're arguing that CP3 hasn't been surrounded by a lot of talent... which I strongly disagree with. The last two years have been derailed by injury, which i don't count against him.

As I've said, CP3 is a enigma. he plays AMAZING. Regular season. Playoffs. Whatever. But you hear these nibbles of info about players not like playing with him, etc.

hes no all star that's what im saying. great defensively? nope. solid? yes.

overrated? definitely. his impact on the game in the end is no different than any other pick and roll center this league has to offer. and the fact that you can't have him in at the end of games makes it that much worse. but you're right let not derail this thread. hes really not worth it to me

We will defiantly be looking for a 4 if we get CP3, we pretty much need to shed Andersons salary to acquire him.

He was still 3rd center getting votes this year after the last two years being first team, still gives you blocks, great great rebounding and a very solid Drtg.

Absolutely with you on the FT thing. It's so annoying to watch and think about and does really decrease value.

He's not a GREAT 3rd of a Big 3... no doubt. Indeed, somewhat laughable to think about him in that vein. But he's absolutely exactly the type of player teams need to win and advance.

Some of you guys are overthinking this. CP3 is a bona fide top ten player in this league whose primary strength is that he is a play maker. There is no such thing as having too many play makers in this league. The Rockets in their history have had two top ten players only once on the same team and we all know what happened then.

Can't believe people are complaining about CP3 fit and drawing comparisons to Ty Lawson. He's an elite talent who can shoot the ball extremely well. Harden has played with Durant and Westbrook. I would not be worried.

Paul is also a very good shooter, including being a good catch and shoot guy. Last year he shot 49.3% from three on catch and shoot opportunities. The reason other point guards wouldn't work with Harden is because they can't shoot so if they aren't handling the ball they aren't doing anything (see, Wubio, Wicky.) With Paul he can still be a part of the offense when the ball isn't in his hands.

Can someone explain exactly why Chris Paul who seems to be beginning to decline at 32 is $20 million or more a year better than Patrick Beverly who is 3 years younger, shoots 3 just as well, and is just as good on defense? Both bring toughness to their teams.

Chris Paul also duplicates much of Harden's value as a distributor.

I say save the money for a front court player or two.

seriously? you're asking for the difference in worth of a top tier all nba player vs a role player who needs to play off someone. I love PB but he is no where close to level of a player of a cp3. please relax with the goggles man.

This might of made more sense if you replaced the name with Rubio or Jrue who get paid so much more than PB.

I would also like to point out that Chris Paul has no signs of declining statistically. He's about as consistent as they come.

PER last five seasons (most recent on top):
    26.2
    26.2
    26.0
    25.9
    26.4

Yes there are injury concerns, which is a legitimate concern, but that's less related to age as he's had injury plagued seasons in his 20's too.

DJ is only top 10 in basically every major advanced statistic that you could ask a center to qualify for (defensive box +/-, defensive WS, defensive rating, offensive rating, block %, total rebound %, defensive rebound %, offensive rebounding %, effective FG%, true shooting %, blocks per game, rebounds per game, etc, etc, etc). I could go on.

Look, I get it: we all want superstars. Flashy offensive stars that can score 20+ blindfolded thus giving our offense more dimension to it. I want a player(s) like that too, but it doesn't mean I need to stick my head in the sand and rant aimlessly about how "overrated" a clearly valuable super-role player is. DJ is a phenomenal garbageman five and we would be lucky to have him. That said, we have bigger fish to fry and Capela is good enough moving forward. Just saying, let's be rational here.
