I love this but if you lose Gordon and Lou you have 0 bench

If we get CP3 and Melo for instance, then the title contender window would still be 2 years..... we should rebuild then....

This endless cycle would feel like the Clippers. We'd have to hope that Durant and Curry get injured.

I dun want to do that tho.

Give up Dekker plus give Sac an unprotected 2018 pick, along with Anderson, Harrell too if they want.

That is as high as I would go. I don't know if it would be enough, but we have no other choice.

I'll come back to that. The Saving line depends on how you understand it. Rebuilding the right way could be even a better plan.

This is exactly what the Dwight and Harden combo was. Limited title window.......

Now if we have 3 stars and role players and still lose to the GSW by not just a little, then I dun think much has been accomplished.

Paul George is the youngest guy among the rumored names but also the guy who won't be staying in a place unless it is LA.

Morey and Les are saving themselves by generating enough interest to make money, and fill seats. Typical PR stuff.

I am not buying anything they say about aces up the sleeves. CP3 is 2-3 years away from being a role player barring injuries.

Hayward may attract Millsap to Utah.
But if CP3 opts not to return to the Clippers, then perhaps Blake may not get a max from them, thus making him a potential Houston Rocket.
Paul George is the least likely guy to join us. If Harden hadn't flamed out in
Game 6, we would be in a strong position.

Thank you Bima. If we do get two Superstars how much space would we have for role players. The last thing I'd want is for this team to sign a bunch of Matt Maloney's because we've capped out on Les's wallet because we got 2 other Stars.

We need to be DUMB ASF to give a 32-year-old, injury prone PG 34M a year for the next 4 years. That is not going to end well,.

    Thanks for the edification.

Let's just say DM the GM were to stretch the stretch 4 Ryno. And a team signs him for say $1mil/yr, 3 yrs. Does the cap get $1 mil benefit per year?

Yeah we could get them both but so can the Spurs who have the advantage of a much better GM, a better run organization and a more team friendly superstar....

This all sounds good, but if you're moving out Anderson, Williams, Beverley, Gordon, and Dekker for Paul and George/Millsap, then do you have enough players to field a team?

    PG: Paul / ?
    SG: Harden / ?
    SF: Ariza / ?
    PF: Millsap / Harrell
    C: Capela / Onuaku

Paul, Ariza, and Millsap aren't getting any younger. You have to have a bench. Can you use the MLE? I guess you could get Nick Young with that. But who is your 3rd guard?

thank you Bima. The problem is that finding a taker for anderson is going to be really hard. and it begs the question, why did we hamstring ourselves like that with the signing last offseason?

because i do not believe we'll find a taker for anderson, i guess i'm pessimistic about your scenario coming to fruition. but it's nice to know there's at least a pathway to get to 3 stars. just not sure why we allowed short-sighted thinking last year to really undermine our chances of being players this year.

I am sure you can still have Nene on a cheap deal and then look for cheap wings like maybe Afflalo. Paul and Harden would be fun to watch but that roster won't cut it versus GS. Maybe if you had George instead of Milsap.

You word that like you understand how salary matching works, except for when one side doesn't send any players. The rules are still the same. You need to match salaries if you are over the cap, or you need to use a Traded Player Exception. It doesn't matter if one side sends a player or not ... they could send you a bag of chips for all it matters.

So, how close you need to be wrt to matching salaries are complicated formulas; it's "deep" as you say. But the essentials answer to your question is that when to apply the formulas are the same regardless if one team sends $0 (a pick) or an actual player contract.

Morey's second best skill is finding replaceable nba roster talents.

His double chin will tell you what his greatest skill is.

Bima I feel like a lot of people are shooting past the hoe can we get this cap room part.

Lou - sure an expiring plus maybe add some sweetener. He's kind of Bogut like that way I guess. Though if the rockets ultimately have to use two first round picks to acquire and then get rid of Lou that won't be DMs greatest move.

Ryno....? Which teams do you think would be interested in acquiring him for nothing in return and how much sweetener is required??

In the best case scenario DM has a crap ton of wheeling/dealing to do just to make it feasible.

    Thanks

Everyone seems to be getting caught up on what our bench would look like if we added two of the allstar caliber players we are pursuing. GS bench isn't deep. They had a few vets join on. Aren't they going to have some additional trouble this year when they have to pay several guys. Iggy is supposedly on the move so I wouldn't get caught up on that. With those guys on that team for us, people would be lining up for a chance at the title.

Having 2 of the best 3 playmakers in the NBA and the best two pick and roll players in the NBA does not hurt. Having said that we need another big man besides Clint to compliment these two playmaking monsters especially off the pick and roll. Griffin if he could stay healthy he would be perfect.

True but more than two contending teams will be fighting for elite role players.
