I'm not sure that's the case - there's been a lot of problems, all compounding each other. Bad SP puts more pressure on RP. Bad hitting puts more pressure on all the pitching. etc. In the 7 losses since our streak ended, we haven't scored much, but also only had 1 quality start (yesterday). Before that, in our previous 5 losses, the starter couldn't even get through 5 innings. It puts more of a tax on the bullpen which then causes them to be less effective and put the game out of reach.
Major League average is 5.58 innings/game. Astros over last week are 5.37 innings/game. Astros FIP 2.77/ERA 2.76. League FIP 4.33/4.31. So slightly less innings per game than league average while 33% more effective. I think Astros starters on average aren't putting too much pressure on the pen except for the fact that pen is scrapping up long relief as long releivers are starting.
The most glaring thing "lately" is the fact we scored 5+ runs for an entire 10-game roadie, then have come home to NOT score 5+ in 5 of 7 games. Three of those 5 games produced 1-2 runs. Agreed SP is an issue too which is affecting the pen. The next off day isn't until June 26th, so that doesn't help. More health is supposedly near and maybe the current bunch pitches better. Paulino gets another chance tonight.
The goal isn't to be league average though. What were the starters averaging prior to them all going on the DL?
About league average innings at 2.77 FIP is well above average. Starters for season are 5.68 innings per game. So basically, 2.5 innings short for the week while pitching significantly better in those innings than Astros have been getting from starters for the season. Being average at starting pitching innings wise with being fantastic per inning while 4 SPs are down is fantastic and should not hinder Astros in any fashion from being the best team in baseball for regular season. Bullpen's problem is more than just last 7 days.
national broadcast going off on our batter's eye. Calling it "busy"! no one comes into our house and rags on our centerfield! only we can do that. =)
damn did that kid really sell out his dad? cold blooded. He is going to a great lawyer or arms dealer.
I really like these broadcasters more than the rangers punks from last time, but wow on the graphics. According to them, Martes was the SP. And they just had gattis as McCann. I know those two easily get mistaken but ....
