With Amazon buying Whole Foods, for ~ $14 B, the online retailer is on a collision course with Walmart to try to be the predominant seller of pretty much everything you buy.

Each one is trying to become more like the other —

    • Walmart by investing heavily in its technology,
    • Amazon by opening physical bookstores and now buying physical supermarkets.
But this is more than a battle between two business titans. Their rivalry sheds light on the shifting economics of nearly every major industry, replete with winner-take-all effects and huge advantages that accrue to the biggest and best-run organizations, to the detriment of upstarts and second-fiddle players.

i will probably shop grocery online more

Whole foods is way over priced. They also don't have enough counter so when I feel like paying for overpriced groceries I have to wait in line?

Only suckers with more money than brains shop at whole foods. I'll stick to Aldi, Trader Joe's and sometimes Central Market for the fancy stuff.

I buy everything with Amazon, and have cut my costs WAY down.

It is becoming difficult to shop anywhere else in comparison. The customer service they have is just too good.

stock prices of Kroger and other retailers (Sprout, Target, Costco), as well as pharmacy co (CVS) are trading down. Amazon is up > 3%,

increasing its market cap by $15 B,

which is more than the price tag ($14 B) for Whole Food
