I'll watch my Rockets, but outside that I'm done with the NBA

when was the last time there was A game-winner in the playoffs? Maybe I haven't been paying attention. I'm sure Adam silver will make the remainder of the finals close.

agreed, you guys have to remember he was in Oklahoma before. This is the first time he's actually tasted what it feels like to be in a big market. Shoe sales are up, his following is skyrocketing....he understands there's way more money to be made outside of his nba contract now and winning championships will only add to it.

and these companies will make sure to pay him whatever it takes to keep them on a championship team.

I think a lot of people just watch their teams. Many of us aren't interested if our team isn't playing. It's hard for me to feel invested in the outcome of the game if the Rockets aren't playing.

Wasn't there one in the Cleveland-Boston series? And probably some other Eastern series (which I don't pay attention to... because Eastern conference sucks.)

But yeah aside from the Warriors being unlikable glory hounds, there hasn't been many compelling one-off games this year, either.

Oh --- there was Rockets-Spurs game 5. Thanks, Harden.

i've held my ground in not watching apparently everyone else hasn't. Not one single minute. I'd rather watch our injury replacement pitchers walk 100 batters.

Yea the NBA has been getting lamer under Silver. Lets give the top 2 players multiple all stars and kill the competition in the NBA while making it seem like its some huge accomplishment that they are in the finals every year.

Stern allowed Lebron to create a monopoly in the east and Silver allowed Durant to form one in the West. The refs have been WWE level also. This year i watched the least amount of NBA in my entire life and i dont see it changing unless they implement something to keep at least 6 teams in true contention.

Im not doing another year watching 2 elite athletes compete for MVP stats because deep down they know they can't win a series against those teams. **** you NBA.

Too many people watching this garbage. Most watched Finals in 20 years

"The 2017 NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers is the most-watched NBA Finals since 1998 through four games, according to Fast Nationals from Nielsen."

haven't watched any of the final games. Just not interested. If Cleveland pull out G5, I'll probably watch G7.

Same here, I'd watch a game 7, but even then I wouldn't really care one way or the other. Other than a game 7, there's just way too many other better things to do or watch.

I watched but mostly because I was switching back and forth between the Astros. Really find myself not giving a **** about the NBA offseason. KD spitting out his beer and then acting like a drunk sorority chick at the press conference was the last straw for me

Couldn't be more right. The casual fan is in heaven right now. Think about it, if you're some douchebag in silicon valley chances are last night you partied really hard and felt like you did something. Nevermind that you don't know who Latrell Spreewell is, or when Stephen Jackson was a warrior, you loved it. There are tons of those fans across the nation. They ate that crap up last night.

The easiest fix to all this is: move Houston and Memphis to the east. Call the warriors on the illegal screens far more strictly. Don't ever allow for dramatic cap spikes again.

This will never happen because the NBA loves this outcome. Silver looks like Stephen Hawking right now.

Casual fans are the ones that help NBA make money and grow, that is why NBA want Chinese players, so they can grow faster in China, it is all about the money. The players are much better off with NBA making more money than parity for the league.

Yes, but if you piss off or annoy your hard core fans, you may never recover. Look at what happened to baseball. They were the #1 sport, they went on a strike that pissed off lots of the hard core fans, and they never recovered. The other sports should pay heed to that message.

Plus, casual fans are by definition fickle. Attracting them does boost your numbers...but they just as easily leave and go somewhere else. Sports pay too little attention to the hard core fans that are the foundation of their success, and that may lead to their house of cards crumbling.

It is a valid point regarding the current state of the NBA, post KD to Warriors. Apparently, ratings for the finals were up, due to casual fans. But most hard core fans I know are of the same opinion as you...they'll watch 'their team' (likely with less interest than usual, given the near impossibility of the ultimate success), but mostly ignore everything else. I watched a little bit of this year's finals, but not much. I didn't really care who won. GSW winning, as handily as they did, makes me even less interested not just in them, but in the NBA in general. I'm not invested in any team any more, and therefore have little reason to watch. And there are plenty (millions?) like me (and you). The playoffs in general...sucked. BORING! This is NOT a good thing for the NBA.

I disagree that it's all about the casual fans. Sure, they can make your NBA Finals ratings look good, but that doesn't necessarily translate directly into revenue for the NBA. The NBA revenue streams are broken down into stadium tickets, TV contracts (national and local), as well as merchandise. Casual fans are the most likely to cut their cable cord, thus they will not be helping the bottom line of the networks that are paying the NBA. In fact, they probably aren't even the ones watching the locally broadcast games. The casual fans are also the least likely to shell out for actual games, and are least likely to buy merchandise.

The NBA wants growth in China, because it's a big market, which means potentially huge number of hardcore fans. I don't think CCTV is paying NBA billions for broadcast rights. At this point, China is more about merchandise revenue than anything else.
