there's a lot more centers in the league people overhype than CC, especially the ones that continue to lose
I'm not sure what sort of a point you are trying to make here. Just an odd statement. Think for a second about just how bizarre you are for writing this. Jesus.
I stand by everything I posted in that thread. Their both out of the league currently, they've both been hammered with injuries that derailed their careers. I don't understand what you quoting that thread is supposed to mean? Is me comparing our PF's 3 years ago supposed to as embarrassing and your r****ded player comparisons and scouting predictions? Remember guys, Frank Mason is better then Isaiah Thomas TODAY according to basketballhollic And Cody Zeller and Henzonja are superstars. Oh and Motiejunas is a more talented offensive player then Cousins. And Parsons isn't going anywhere.
Yeah but I am still waiting for them Josh Harrellson and Spencer Dumbwiddie highlights. When are they signing with the Rockets? LMAO
My final response in this thread. Capela is a mediocre big. He's below average defensively. He's an average pick and roll finisher. He's simply not a difference-making big man. Just another big. I don't think he's as bad as Terrence Jones. He'll last longer in the NBA than Terrence. But the only way he he'll win a championship as a starting center will be to be on a team with all-star at the other four spots. He cannot carry the defensive paint. He's too slow to process the opponent action that's he's looking at. And therefore he's too slow to respond effectively. He's also going to continue to have trouble with extended minutes. He simply didn't have stamina and gets worn down quickly. We need to trade him before we have to pay him and he becomes a negative trade value.
When filtered for players who are the roll man for greater than 20%frequency and have played greater than 50games played, (20% and 50gp where just random numbers I thought of to determine actually usage in PnR situations) Capela is 8th in frequency at 28%. Capela is 15th in ppp at 1.14ppp. Capela is 6th in ppg (in roll situations) at 3.6ppg. Capela is 8th in fg% at 60.1%. Capela is 14th best with only a 5.4 tov% You may not like his defense and it's obvious he isn't a world beater protecting the rim. But to discredit his offensive prowess in PnR situations is asinine. He is one of the better roll men in the league.
I see a lot of Tyson Chandler in Capela. He's going to be a "solid" starting center for many more years. If the Rockets aren't getting Marc Gasol, or whoever is the best starting center at moment worthy of the max then Capela is the next best thing. He does what he does very well and if he improves as a rebounder (which he should) he's going to be that much better. I think the bargain the Rockets are going to get for him next season outweighs the draft pick or whatever they will get for him in a trade. Enjoy this next year at a bargain rate, and do what you can to get him back next Summer at a favorable rate. If he goes for the max and you don't think he's worth it let him walk.
I don't get all the negativity aimed at Capela. He's still very young and is a European player, something some seem to forget. It's been an adjustment for Clint to play in the league. He's being developed, and regardless of what I've read in this thread, I still have faith in the ability of the Rockets to develop big men. He's shown improvement. At the very least, in my opinion, he's going to become an excellent rotation big, regardless of whether he's ultimately our starting center. If we end up with a better big man than Clint through the draft (if Morey got lucky with a 2nd rounder), or as part of a deal, and Capela is still here, I would have confidence in the guy backing up a starter or starting due to injury. Morey should lock the guy up before he becomes too expensive. I think one of 3 things will happen - he'll develop into a competent starter that's better than he is now (hopefully a lot better), he'll develop into a valuable rotation big (love Nene, but if he's healthy, he still isn't going to be around more than a season or two due to Father Time, IMO), or he'll develop into a valuable trade piece, which he probably is now. In my opinion, of course.
These Stats really dont mean much because harden is just that good. Capelas shots are either lob dunks, 2 foot layups, or put backs. I agree with Holic that he will never be an Allstar in all honesty. For his contract he is incredibly valuable to us however and any team in the league would have him. Would i dangle him in trade talks? Absolutely. While other bigs probably wont be putting up numbers as good as Clint or as effecient i think alot of bigs in the NBA playing next to James would be close. We saw that with NENE this year when his career was basically written off until harden revammped it for him. James harden is the best P&R player in the NBA by far guys and he doesent get enough credit on how much he helps make the game so much easier for the bigs. If CC is traded though it better be for an elite wing. Add ariza and louu and a first and maybe you get PG? turner is more suited for the PF spot anyway
I'm not denying harden had a lot to do with his roll game but same goes for Deandre with cp3. Tristan with LeBron and Kyrie. You still have to finish, and Capela is one of the best in the league at it. I agree I don't think he's going to be an all star, and I agree he has to make strides defensively. He is a good fit here and a good starter for us. He is average defensively and very good in his ROLE on offense. Even though he is limited offensively he is an above average offensive player for us. I wanted Tyson Chandler last year because I wanted to shore up the middle and give someone to tutor and mentor Capela defensively. Tyson is his potential imo but I don't think he'll ever be that great defensively.
Capela is going to be a top 10 C when he's 25, I have no doubt in my mind about that. At present he is top 20 at the age of 23 with plenty of easy room for improvement. By just improving his strength, free throw shooting and processing the experience he gained this season, he will improve yet again. He has never returned from an offseason without improving. He has outperformed expectations every season he's been here. Lucky to have the guy. Lock him up, it's a no-brainer. People continue to make arguments about how he is not perfect and how so and so player will be better than him soon. Does. Not. Matter. He does not have to be perfect and he doesn't have to be better than every draft pick coming into the league. He is proving to be a hard worker whose work is translating on the court and has plenty of time to improve. To insinuate that he will always be some past version of himself is lazy analysis.
