I think Keuchel and McCullers DL is them being overly conservative and/or trying to limit innings now while they have a big division lead. None of the injuries (except McHugh) were arm or shoulder related. So I'm still optimistic. Upside is that one or more of the replacements could assert themselves as a good starter in the meantime.
Is it time to test devo as a starter. It's one of his roles, emergency starter. Fiers, musgrove, devo, X and X.
Great, all we need is for the Rangers to sweep and gain momentum while we try to ride out this injury bug. What can we get for some prospects outside of our top 10?
This is going to be a rough month. I'm guessing .500 level ball in June. Good thing we had such a good start.
Yeah I think ya gotta let Devo go out there and start. Maybe if he gets on a roll we can get 6 innings out of him. It's gonna hurt to shut him down 3-4 days after the start but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
Makes tonight with Musgrove returning all the more important to get this first win of the series. I already bought tickets for tomorrow, could have just gone today but thought tomorrow would be a better game, guess not.
This actually makes me want to pause more. I agree with the huge concern about taxing the bullpen, but I also want to have more info on the status of all these injuries before making a decision. If Keuchel, McCullers, and Morton are all back in 1-2 weeks, that's different than if it looks more serious for one of them. On the flipside, if it's a serious long-term issue for all of them, I'm not sure its worth trying to get 1 pitcher because the problem is much deeper than that at that point.
If by pause, you mean taking a moment to evaluate things properly, then I agree. But the immediate situation is surely to grave to do nothing. Nothing so far suggests DK and LMC are long term problems. Of course, injury history is an ever-present long term problem. If we go all in on a TOR, he better have a clean injury history.
It's really just about Keuchel and LMJ. If they can come back, they need to add. If only one can come back, they need to add. Morton was always looked at as an injury waiting to happen. McHugh has been a long shot all year. If nobody comes back, are you willing to waste the rest of the season? The Indians last year withstood losing a bunch of starters, but they still made moves to stay in contention. I don't think you simply flush the rest of the season away.
