Now can we just let this alleged scandal just die. They've investigated the hell out of this and there has been zero proof of any Russian Collusion with the Trump campaign. Trump was legally and democratically elected and the people elected him to do what he said he would do. It seems that many are for democracy until someone you disagree with is elected. On to the next faux scandal by the Elite, Media and Governmental complex that sees their power fading.
This hasn't been a big deal for most Americans, just Hillary die-hards. The big deal has always been if Trump lied about why he fired Comey - and it is crystal clear that he did. It is also crystal clear that Sessions is culpable for leaving the room and allowing the President to direct Comey to drop the investigation. Trump lied - and continues to lie. The Russian investigation was not the issue - this is a deflection tactic.
We can conclude that and if there wasn't obstruction justice with the special counsel that is still investigating everything you assumed was concluded.
The investigation hasn't concluded and really has just begun. It comes nowhere close to comparing to other congressional investigations such as the multiple ones on Benghazi.
though unethical, it is not a crime for the president to order (accordingly he asked) Comey to drop any investigation.
I think the collusion case is better investigated by Mueller's investigation since so much of it would be considered confidential and unable to be discussed in an open setting. I am guessing that is where Flynn's, Kushner's, Manafort's, and I suspect Sessions and even Trump's testimony will happen.
Asking someone to leave the room may have actually strengthened the case for obstruction of justice against Trump: http://www.newsweek.com/trump-comey-obstruction-justice-623182
It proves more than anything that he doesn't know what the hell he is doing. The public sector is not the private sector, there should be decorum and there are far more rules. There is also something to be said about the act of "Being Presidential." While I disagreed with much of what Obama did, I was never ashamed of him as my President... the same can not be said for Trump, not by a long shot. The guy is just a buffoon, and gets caught being an idiot and in lie after lie after lie - for the most meaningless of things. This is the perfect example of him being his own worst enemy. He won the presidency, there was nothing else to prove - he had the last laugh. But he just couldn't help but try to rub it in Hillary's face, and make his victory out to be something it wasn't... and him admitting that Russia tried to affect the US elections would not have made him look weak, or his victory any less shocking. What it would have done, was make him look like a leader.
Comey stated that Trump himself was not under investigation but it's been confirmed that officials with the Trump campaign (like Michael Flynn) are under investigation for their ties to Russia. However, even Comey himself stated that the special counsel is currently looking at the possibility that Trump committed obstruction of justice, so he may actually be under investigation now as well. Obviously, this concept is way too complicated for the simple-minded Dear Leader worshipers here but those of us with functioning brain cells understand the current situation.
How are people declaring final judgments when the investigation is ongoing? This thread would make more sense after the Mueller report is released.
It is amazing how many Trump diehards think this clears him. Comey was fired a month ago - he has no idea what the investigators are doing with the case now, one way or another. Russia or not. Trump lied and was unethical (legal or not). The very same Trump supporters now defending him, are likely the same people that probably lambasted Clinton for lying about getting a blowjob in the oval office. Your President is supposed to be better than most, not the status quo.
its not debatable. and the Comey firing changed nothing. Still not a crime, but again unethical. There is a reason you have found no Democrat able to name a single crime the administration has committed.
... yet. Where there is smoke there is fire, and there is a hell of a lot of smoke around this administration at the moment.
His firing Comey is being investigated as part of the obstruction of justice investigation. And as @pirc1 said, obstruction of justice is what the case against Nixon was centered around.
I don't think Trump will get convicted of impeachment. Chances are slim with impeachment itself. His interests are fairly aligned with the Repub Congress Trumpcare would've passed the first time if Ryan knew how to write and wrangle a bill. Trump is pretty much out of the House's hair provided he takes credit for the wins...and that they win.
