The thing is, the people that are breaking from Trump are mostly people from the Republican party. James Comey and Jeff Sessions do not want anything to do with this guy. This is a bigger issue than just a Democrats vs. Republicans. It's a national security issue. Trump has gone rogue and his own people can't control him. Someone like that needs to go.

Plus you originally supported Cruz...which says a lot about you as a person.

I just can't believe how Trump could be so obtuse. His idiocy surely knows no bounds... he gets so many of the most basic of things wrong, all in the name of his ego.

Okay you may actually stumbled onto something here unwittingly. So, since it is perceived that Trump is causing a "national security issue", it is okay to convict the guy of something for which there is no evidence to this point just so we can get him out of there? Got it! The law be damned, we have to get this guy out of here no matter what is the mantra. That is why so many rush to convict him of crimes in the court of public opinion and not based on rationality.

Well thank you, I does say quite a bit about my high character and morals. Given your avatar, I assume you are quite young. I bet you supported Bernie Sanders. I could make innuendos about that but will refrain due to my high character and morals.

I know that the Comey leaks are dominating the news today. I was hoping that the Lynch angle would get more run. She attempted to manipulate the election as did Wassermann Shultz and they seem to be getting a pass. I guess this is Ok because they aren't Russian but I still think they should have been more neutral because of their respective positions.

You don't understand. It isn't just that they lied. It's that they lied over and over again. Why lie if they didn't have anything to hide?

Your excuse of Kushner is laughable. I'm not going to say there was collusion during the election yet because we don't know. I'll wait for the evidence.
But he didn't have the capability to suggest that prior to the election. What we do know is that he lied about contacts with the Russians, then had to file an amended security clearance form to include his contacts with the Russians. Then it turns out that he lied on that form as well. So he's lied multiple times about his connections with the Russians.

If it was innocent above board talks, why lie? Let's investigate and find out. But don't act like people are grasping at straws to call for an investigation. That wouldn't be the case if it was only Kushner that we were talking about, but it isn't. It's half a dozen or so of some of Trump's top people.

I'll play along for a bit. Hope you're doing well, cml.

I don't necessarily think that the investigation into the Trump team's Russian ties is entirely about swaying an election. I do hope that Robert Mueller gets to the bottom of that and I'll accept whatever conclusion he comes to. A truly independent special counsel is something all of us should welcome.

What concerns me more now is Russia affecting US policy in a way that benefits Russia, destabilizes long-standing American partners and harms us at home to the benefit of Vladimir Putin. Kushner's attempts at establishing a back channel concern me because it speaks to a desire for clandestine communication at a time when the Trump transition team was, perhaps knowingly, appointing an undisclosed, paid foreign agent (Michael Flynn) to the highest national security post in the country. Why was Flynn appointed to such a position when it could not be guaranteed that he was 100% committed to working on behalf of the United States and not Russia or Turkey?

Perhaps even more concerning is the Trump administration's eagerness to endorse positions that benefit Moscow and not the West. President Trump's refusal to reiterate support for Article V of NATO, in a speech that Rex Tillerson and HR McMaster believed would reaffirm our support of the treaty, is troubling. Let's not get into stump speech rhetoric about "fair shares" or defense spending and, instead, let's focus on who gains from a reluctance to reaffirm the core of NATO. There is nobody who benefits from a weakened American commitment to NATO except for Russia. Why did President Trump refuse to do this when members of his own cabinet believed he would do the opposite in the moments before his speech?

If there's no "there" there when it comes to President Trump and Russia, like you keep insisting, you should welcome the results of Robert Mueller's investigation. Fundamentally, this is about ensuring that Russia does not have hidden influence over our President and government (which they did when paying Michael Flynn). Vladimir Putin is not our friend and we should all agree that that former KGB lieutenant colonel does not want what's best for our country.

Interesting. The "Comey Leaks" narrative is being pushed by Trump. I already posted a few articles quoting legal experts that show that Comey sharing personal notes of a conversation he had with Trump do not constitute a "leak" since (1) they were his personal notes of a conversation he had with Trump, and (2) they were not confidential in nature, and (3) Trump tweeted about the conversation already, which further freed Comey to publicize the notes from the conversation.

Curious as to why you would prefer media coverage or focus on a conversation between a former government official and another about the use of one word or the other instead of an investigation of obstruction of justice involving the current resident and former FBI director where the President directed the FBI director to not investigate his former NSA adviser. But hey, I am happy to have both investigated.

I have absolutely no problem with the Robert Mueller investigation and said so in the thread about it. I actually hope his investigation includes the "unmasking" of citizens and Hillary's e-mails since they are all a big part of this . I will be disappointed if it doesn't. I want everyone on all sides to answer for any wrong doings. I have absolutely no problem if ACTUAL evidence is presented and Trump is impeached or even imprisoned. What I grow tired of is him already being convicted in the court of public opinion without evidence. There has been information leaking like a sieve from all across the government. The media would not know everything they know or think they know without all the leaks. Comey himself is guilty of leaking information. I hope this is all investigated and justice is served everywhere but we should not have to hear the medias daily conviction of Trump without real evidence. If and when there is actual evidence we will all know when we are supposed to find out. As to the first part of your post, I see no reason to comment on it at this time because if Trump is guilty as many of you feel, it will all come to light. If he is found innocent, everyone is free to disagree with the policy(foreign and domestic) of a sitting President but realize the famous saying "elections have consequences". I could argue all day about the lunacy that was Obama's foreign policy but he is no longer President. When all this likely blows over as nothing, you are all free to vote against Trump in the 2020 election. If he has a primary challenger, I will SERIOUSLY consider voting for them in the primaries but I will vote against the Democrat in the fall almost guaranteed unless the Democrat party somehow starts to show some common sense which has been absent for ages.

I understand your argument and I am not trying to classify the leaks as illegal but they they are leaks nonetheless.

The media coverage is already abundant for your second point so me wanting some focus on Lynch/Shultz shouldn't be too surprising. Especially with all of the focus that has been spent on the Former USSR.

The use of the term "leak" is intended to suggest an illegal release of confidential government information. Trump and his people know and I suspect you do as well.

And media has covered Comey's testimony about Lynch: Fox news, CNN, CNBC, NYT, WaPo, and of course all the conservative "news" sites. But again, the importance of out-of-office Lynch asking Comey use the word "matter" instead of "investigation" compared to current president Trump telling Comey to drop his investigation of Flynn?

We should all assume innocence until proven guilty.

The special prosecutor will investigate Russian election meddling, Americans who colluded with the Russians, and Americans who obstruct this investigation.

Comey's testimony this week and prior indicates that there is little doubt that Russian meddled. All USA intel agencies agree.

Comey's testimony this week and prior indicates that several members of the Trump Administration are "people of interest" to the investigation. Whether or not this leads to indictments is an open question.

Comey's testimony this week indicates that he coyly could not state in a public forum whether or not Trump is now under investigation.

The public will only find out about any evidence of the above crimes if a case goes to trial. Publicly claiming there is or is not evidence until then is pointless.

Trump was dumb enough to mention this; Trump is probably dumb enough to consider making secret tapes public.

Special prosecutor might subpoena the tapes, if the obstruction of justice charge warrants it.

Again, Trump is his own worst enemy.

Trumpers continue to cast this only as a Republican-Democrat battle. They do not care about the "Russian tampering" issue.

Now I must say, there has been almost no evidence offered about the "tampering" thing. But Trump at least should have shown some concern about it. All his special interactions with Comey were only about covering his own ass, with no concern for the "tampering" issue. All Americans should at least have concern about the security of our elections, especially the president. But nope, he has never showed the slightest concern.

The big kicker is that he refuses to admit his screwups, always deflecting them on others.

Largest Electoral College victory ever. Best first 100 days ever.

"Attempt to manipulate the election"... huh. You are talking about Obama officials including Obama himself actively campaigning for Clinton. Of course they (Lynch included) wanted to influence the election.

However is the argument that she broke a law? Im not sure what we are supposed to be arguing about with Lynch even though it is all over the news regardless.

You are also talking about an Obama admin that kept Comey from coming out public in July that the Trump campaign was being looked at for collusion with the Russians because they were concerned it would be inappropriate.

While calling Hillarys investigation a matter might seem like a big deal to you, let's not forget they did Republicans a huge favor by concealing information that could have actually swung the election. In the grand scheme of things (and considering The NY Times called it an investigation anyways) do you really want to waste breath talking about the "matter"? That makes Benghazi look like 911.

(Also Obama tried to convince Trump not to hire Flynn which would have saved Trump a world of problems. Obama is looking more and more like a Trump fans best friend)

Anyone trying to defend Trump with the excuse "all politicians lie," just put them on Ignore- not physical Ignore, but mental Ignore. Everybody lies. Do we not listen to anyone at all? No, of course not. Under sworn testimony, Comey said what he said. Trump may be found innocent of obstruction, but he's done. All credibility gone. He'll probably do a few good things, but he's a global embarrassment and, based on his track record, will continue to be. He can't take back every stupid thing he's said and done- and at this point in his Presidency, he's been the worst of all Presidents since the turn of the last century. He'll never regain America's trust. Ever.

Comey commented on this during his testimony. There wasn't evidence to prove the Lynch angle, regardless of how bad it looked. Also, the outcome of the Lynch investigation would have taken far longer than the election cycle, really making it a moot point - especially once Hillary lost.
