Comey is your classic bureaucratic snake. CYA memos in case you get fired, anonymous leaking like crazy, vague aspersions and innuendo (uses of non legal phrases like "troubling", "concerning") He allowed (enabled? encouraged?) a narrative in the media to perpetuate that Trump was under investigation. Trump got tired of Comey's bs and fired his ass.
There is nothing to see here ... except for the stuff to see here. There is no evidence that Trump attempted to obstruct justice ... except for all of the evidence that he did. Of course, all of the evidence may for magical reasons prove Trump's innocence.
He got fired because he was leaking like a sieve to create a dark cloud around Trump. When Trump asked him to remove that cloud, he made lame excuses. Trump could see the game he was playing, and canned his ass.
Because CNN is the news story..... not that Comey's written testimony: Great deflection with CNN....Are you going to discuss something else?
Classic because you support Trump? Or because you support Clinton? Obstruction is justice is a serious offense from our elected officials, don't you agree?
Trump's people are, remember when he said he only hires the best? Well we are going to find out with Comey on the obstruction accusation and the Special Counsel the extent of Russian collaboration between the members, who Trump personally appointed and then fired when it was convenient.
As I've said, it's going to be very hard to connect Trump to Russia and to bring charges against Trump. However, Congress may impeach him if this keeps dragging out.
Yeah, we kind of agree, but not completely. We agree a lot of people are salivating for this to mean Trump impeachment, but I don't see that as even a tiny chance. We don't agree, as far as I can tell, that it's still worth investigating b/c a couple of his campaign people look really skeezy at this point. We agree, I think, that we want to figure out everything Russia did and try to keep them out of our beeswax in the future. Cheers!
Again the Trump campaign is under investigation and Manafort, Flynn, and Kushner have been reported as targets. This investigation in connection to Russia makes sense to start where it started... with the actual connections (like the guy sitting next to Putin, getting paid by the Russians, lying about it illegally, and being a foreign agent for Turkey). However a special counsel has now been called and he has far reaching power to involve matters like such. You'd be a fool to believe this won't be part of what he looks at just as Whitewater when a land deal ended up finding a purgery charge for lying about a Blow J. Will Mueller indict Trump because of this? That's the question you should be asking that nobody can answer. In reality it would still be up to a grand jury in a criminal case so one person couldn't tell you either way. However as it's been noted a million times and as Richard Nixon himself said "if the president does it, it's not a crime". So while Mueller can and might suggest impeachment due to "high crimes", he can't actually be charged as president. So even if guilty, it doesn't mean crap. When Trump broke the law a few weeks ago by sharing classified info with the Russians what happened?? Nothing because he can't be charged like a normal civilian. He can only be impeached by the House (where they might site "high crimes" and even that likely doesn't lead to being voted out of office. So at this point let's just pump the breaks on obstruction and impeachment because Mueller will want to conclude the totality of the case of Russian hacking and any collusion by Trump officials and then any crimes that were committed (like obstruction) will make more sense in the totality of the conclusion of the investigation. The Senate and House could find something too and move before Mueller but I find it more likely Mueller's investigation takes precedent and mostly halts the other findings. So let's stop with the Im a lawyer and your not nonsense please. In no world has Trump been exonerated from the Russian investigation and in no way is he being put in Hald cuffs tomorrow if ever. We have YEARS more of this drama so let's take it day by day and not act as though anything is shutting the door on anything.
According to famous lefty lawyer Alan Dershowitz, Comey's testimony appears to be poised to clear President Trump.
Interesting to note the right wingers embracing "famous lefty lawyer" Dershowitz. Seems he has consistently defended Trump throughout. Odd thinking a famous Defense lawyer might do that. 'Course, that puts Trump in good company, as Dershowitz also defended OJ Simpson, Mike Tyson, Patty Hearst, and Jim Bakkar. Now that's the type of company one hopes for in a president. But in the interest of balance, other famous lawyers and other legal observers take the contrarian view... that the legal definition of obstruction doesn't require the belief that one is being obstructed... only the attempt of obstruction is present. And that opens the argument as to whether Trump, asking Comey (and perhaps others... they refused to testify in open court, but can in Mueller's investigation) to "ease off". And trump clearly held Comey's job over his head. So there is still much to learn, both before the Senate committee and later through the independent investigation and report. Don't believe there will be much for Trump to celebrate through all this, other than saying "he was told he wasn't under investigation." Which in itself doesn't seem much "winning." And... that's not even mentioning Russian hookers even once in all this...
I agree with Dershowitz that it is extremely unlikely that anything Trump did or said regarding Comey is going to lead to any charges. Doesn't change whether it will matter to the American people.
There's going to be a rock solid case for obstruction of justice, but with this Congress it won't matter.
