I'm torn as well. But I don't think Luhnow is waiting for those guys. Rather, he is waiting for the right price to present itself, knowing that this team has built up enough of a lead to do so. He can also use the DL guys (and our lead) as leverage to try and drive the price down by presenting a position of power. If the need arises (i.e. lead erosion) or if the deadline approaches, I think we'll see a move get made--unless McHugh, or Morton, or Musgrove are back and doing the job you want out of a playoff starter.
Recent history says this isn't true. A stat from earlier this season said winning 70% of just the first 40 games equaled championships from 3 of the last 4 teams to achieve. Maybe you meant a certain amount of wins doesn't GUARANTEE a championship because it definitely has shown equating to a greater likelihood of it.
Both the 2001 Mariners and 2002 Red Sox didn't win it all... this is just off the top of my head, but both those teams started out tremendously.
This stat should've been shown with Astros pitchers vs non-McCann, not MLB. Our staff is better than MLB's.
When two teams face off vs each other and arrive at the same temperature (degree of hotness), the better team will generally win. But much too often, one team is significantly hotter than the other and that usually decides it.
Boston started 29-11 (<.700) and finished with 93 wins. They weren't a 100-win juggernaut, much less 120. edit- 29-11 is .700+, but still a far cry from 120 wins
Dayan Diaz starting. Starting staff is really hurting & bullpen is gonna be taxed.
