Attackers have mounted simultaneous gun and suicide bomb assaults on Iran's parliament building and the tomb of the republic's revolutionary founder, in one of the most audacious assaults to hit Tehran in decades.

At least 12 people were killed and dozens more injured in the twin assaults on the Iranian capital, state media reported. A third attack was foiled, Iran's Intelligence Ministry said.
ISIS issued a swift claim of responsibility. Its media wing, Amaq, claimed "fighters with the Islamic State" carried out the attack, but did not offer evidence.

By choosing the burial site of Iran's revered revolutionary leader, and the national legislative forum, the attackers picked highly symbolic targets.

The attack shocked Tehran: Until now, Iran has largely escaped the regular assaults launched against other participants in Syria's civil war. In a region plagued by sectarian violence, residents of the Iranian capital have lived in a peaceful oasis.

12 People died. Seems ISIS attacks Muslims too, but this isn't getting much coverage.

I think if you polled Americans, 80% would probably say that Iran funds and supports ISIS. Plus with our president slurping Saudi Arabia's koolaid, that number might be higher now.

Muslims won't be seen as victims of terrorism. There won't be sympathy for the lives lost and damage done, loved ones left behind. Instead, the refrain will be about why Muslims aren't speaking out or doing anything to get rid of the extremists themselves. No sympathy for the Muslim victims who of course, brought it on themselves.

FWIW, the top ranking Wahhabi cleric stated that Iranian Shiite's are not Muslims - this essentially makes them apostates. I'm sure Bagdhaddi has said something similar.

It's at the top of the home page of Reuter and the New York Times.

This is major news because it happened inside Iran. Sunni Islamic extremists have been killing Shia "apostates" for years.

So wait a minute: Saudi Arabia and USA hate Iran, and so does ISIS. Saudi Arabia and USA want to topple the Syrian government, and so does ISIS. It seems like we share big goals with ISIS. Isn't that weird?

I think people often confuse Media with Social Media. People who often say "why doesn't the media ever cover..." usually don't pay attention to the actual news. They just pay attention to the news feeds and timelines of who they follow on social media. If their friends and people they're following aren't talking about it..then they believe the "media" isn't covering it.

Go to the front page of any of those sites. A terrorist attack on a parliament and it doesn't even make the front page of the news?

It's kind of surprising this sort of thing doesn't happen much more often honestly. When you have a theocracy representing one branch of the most violent religion on the planet at the moment you'd expect attacks like this all the time.

I'm speaking of Iran, but I suppose the other side of the coin would be ISIS if you want to actually consider them a state. Saudi Arabia is a different situation altogether.

What's weird is the hatred so many in the USA have for a country that stands against worldwide Sunni terrorism and just had a fair presidential election while supporting a country that created the groups that commit these heinous acts with $110 billion in weapons.

I would think Iran is far less violent than Saudi Arabia/USA. What violence were you thinking of?

Presidential candidates in Iran are chosen by the Supreme Council. That constitutes as fair?
