    I really suspect Stern is referring to the sting operations against the Rockets after they eliminated the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals in 1986. You will have a hard time convincing me that the Lakers (especially Magic and Kareem) are clean...

    LLOYD AND WIGGINS OF ROCKETS BANNED FOR DRUG USE
    David Stern, the league's commissioner, announced the suspenions, which were made under provisions of an agreement on drug testing reached in 1983 by the league and its players association, at a hurriedly called news conference at the Sheraton Centre. The 27-year-old Lloyd, one of Houston's starting guards, and Wiggins, also 27, a backup guard, may apply for reinstatement in two years.

    According to Stern, the N.B.A. learned of the players' drug use from a tip, which the commissioner said ''would be adequate to cause a magistrate to issue a search warrant.'' Stern refused to divulge the nature of the information, saying only that the league has security personnel in every league city and throughout the nation.

    Would be pretty hypocritical of the Lakers to do this and I would think somewhat risky. Players fratenized even back then and it was a well known fact that there were druggies on practically every team.

    In fact, I think @Another Brother may have even witnessed some of this first hand or maybe just one step removed. Michael Cooper, for instance, was a player that was commonly known sonar the players to sniff. If the Lakers had snitched and the Rockets knew it, they'd have snitched right back and nailed several of their team.
