Ariza and Lou top this list because of their low cost and the fact they are expiring and they are productive pieces that can help a team. If the team is young a guy like Ariza provides vet leadership. Look what he did for Washington a few years back.

After that, I would go Bev for his heart and tenacity as well as favorable contract. Capela would be my 4th because as of now he is not a stretch big which is what teams really want based on how the league is now.

Further thought on this is that some of the higher teams in the draft are in need of the veteran leadership of an Ariza, maybe not Boston, but LA. The 76ers. Sacramento. Orlando. Minnesota. Most of these teams are young and have talented young guys but need some leadership as well as with LA, they may be looking for both talent in the draft and vets to make their team more enticing to FA's this year or next.

I agree except with a reversal of CC & The Wolv.

Next question: who would bring better 'return', Ryno...or Dwight?

I contemplated putting Bev first, and could definitely see it. On such a bargain contract, is one of the few PGs in this league that can actually play good defense (though given the rules, not sure the impact of that), etc.

That said, especially if I am looking at this year's draft, I think Capela would get you a better return. I mean it's probably extremely unlikely, but I could see Capela on the Knicks for the 8th pick. He'd look really solid next to Porzingis and somewhat give them what Noah was supposed to. Of course, they'd still have Noah's corpse of a contract to deal with.

And from a Rockets perspective, I don't want to make that trade.

I mean if the Rockets are trading either Capela or Bev for a draft pick, and not pursuing a "rebuild", there better be a pretty obvious next step to that plan. I'd say the same for EG.

I can see them moving Ariza or Lou though.

Oh wow. Capela for #8? I voted for Capela after careful consideration. But I can't imagine getting #8 for him. I thought possibly #20 or #22.

12 points, 8 boards in 24 minutes per game, controlled salary, has improved every year, 122 Ortg, 106 Drtg, can score but doesn't need the ball, can defend though isn't DPOY potential but is very solid (and was good in the playoffs defensively), young, etc, etc.

Frankly, what are the chances the #8 pick ends up being as Capela? That history includes Marquees Chriss, Stanley Johnson, Stauskas, KCP, Terrence Ross, Aminu, Jordan Hill, Joe Alexander, Brendan Wright, Rudy Gay, Channing Frye, Chris Wilcox, Jamal Crawford... basically its possible, but seems probably more likely Capela is better than whomever you get at #8.

What do you think of Semi Ojeleye as a late first/2nd round pick?

Definitely Capela I could see Portland trading one of their top 20 picks for him. Most likely #15 but the Rockets wouldn't want to wait another 3-4 years for that young talent to develop.

i would have said the 7th pick, so imo jayz is spot on. capela's a rotation player with a lot of potential who just turned 23 is a coach's dream with zero offcourt issues and no major injuries to worry about. a plus defender who converts inside at a high rate. what percentage of draft picks taken in the low 20's even stick around the league after a few yrs? especially in a weak draft..

Agreed. We don't need projects right now primarily. We need a better top 7. So the pick would need to be a player that would immediately go into the rotation and upgrade it or be good enough to bring in that type of player in trade when merged with other salaries.

If you're saying Capela or Bev + contract to dispose (hmm, think of one?) = Sac pick?

Good point, but not Knixies IF TRUE they want KP to be a 5 but PJax giving it up for Bev? Yeah, I see that in a heartbeat.

I, too, can see TA and/or LWms out but I don't know what I see coming back? Dek, tho, looks to me like a player to be dangled.

For this type of stuff you have to think on the other side. We likely don't do any of these, but that's probably the most we could get.

I could see Milwakue trading #17 for Capela. Capela seems to fit their mold of lengthy and athletic guys. Also, he's young and will be a RFA. May be a better long term player than Henson.

If the Nets could trade Brook Lopez for a decent haul (future late round draft picks and raw players) then I see them trading #22 for Capela. LA trades #28 for Capela. SA trades #29 for Capela.

Highest Sam Dekker can get us is MAYBE #20 from Portland, but honestly they'd rather trade that pick to dump one of of their atrocious contracts instead of getting youth back. Maybe OKC goes for #21. Again with the Nets #22 is an option for Dekker.

I believe OKC would think their #21 is worth Eric Gordon. For Gordon you would have to look for playoff teams looking to improve quickly and OKC fits. Indiana too. If Indy gets desperate they may trade their #18 for Gordon.

Trying to judge what Ariza, Lou, and Beverley would net seems pointless. All on short term contracts, and you don't trade a <#20 pick for a average player who becomes a free agent soon. Realistically, Ariza could get lucky for Portland's #26. Spurs trade #29 for Beverley. Bulls trade #38 for Lou Williams as I don't see the Hawks trading #31 for Lou.

Hmmm... I fell like the idea to put Porzingis at PF next to a prime/peak like Noah actually made sense. Unfortunately that is nowhere close to the Noah they got, which they should have absolutely known going into that horrendous contract.

Porzingis has PF like skill set.

I think he can man either position, though he does play better at PF according to 82games.com

In any case, I don't really see a player at #8 that DM would love so much to move Capela for anyway... now he'd move Ariza for #8 for sure.

The Rockets don't "likely" not do those, they of course don't do those.
They let Dwight walk, in part, because of Capela.
The only negative to Capela is his conditioning.
He puts up DeAndre Jordan like stats per 36 minutes - worse rebounder, more offense.
He's not quite that good, though at comparable age of 22, he's way ahead of DJ.

Even at #8, or #10 or the like, you are basically at crapshoot time. Definitely players with higher upside possible, but probabilistic-ally you won't get a player of Capela's impact.

And to make it fairer, just look at the draft. Which player at #10 or lower do you really want to replace Capela? Bam Adebayo? TJ Leaf? Justin Patton? There will clearly be players in this draft taken mid round or later that end up as good or better than Clint. but it will be 3-4 years until you know which ones and until they emerge anyway.

Eg... there's NO way DM does those deals. Even if they go full blow it up, he doesn't do those deals. Capela is only 22. And cheap.

PBev is cheap and at a peak.

Ariza and Williams are the guys you'd move for cap space and a solid 1st round pick. You won't get that with Williams. Ariza...? maybe, potentially, but still seems unlikely. Toronto might want him and give you #23, but you'd have to take back salary, so not sure it helps.

There is no way in hell that Capela would get u a top 8 pick in this draft.

This thread isn't about what we would want for our players. Take that to the random trade idea thread. This thread is about what our players perceived draft pick values are at, and sure Capela right now might he better than Josh Jackson, but the Suns aren't trading #4 for Capela. Just like the Knicks aren't trading #8 for Capela. Capela's value isn't at #8. A player's value is based on what a team would give up.

Same here, imo a low lottery pick at best, like 12/16 range.

And i'm not sure Capela is the guy that would bring us the better pick, i can see Gordon having more value for different teams.
