And weird assumption isn't true, unless you are referring to Iran, Afghanistan, and Nigeria (top three countries for terrorist attacks) as being "politically correct": https://www.forbes.com/sites/domini...ries-most-affected-by-terrorism/#4884858a30d9 btw, The UK and US are not even in the top ten...
It's not about defending Islam. It's about being pragmatic. Your lowest common denominator of a solution only has one end game. I have no issue with you and I starting a thread and discussing at lengths how draconian of a ass hat this Muhammad guy was 1300 years ago. My point is that it accomplishes nothing besides us circle jerking each other off. You are not looking for actual solutions. You are looking for something to look down at.
Making the discussion a bit one-sided when you're only comparing professors and "neck beard atheists", What about people of the same educational background? Plus I'd like to add several grade A students/low-level doctors I know struck me as being fairly average or even below average intelligence-wise. Being extremely dedicated to your career and investing time in it doesn't automatically make you more intelligent than others.
Dude you take a nap every time the United States machine guns someone from a helicopter. But you're always shocked as a granny by Muslims. If you wanna pee your pants every time someone is murdered, you're going to have a tough time keeping count of all the murders in the world. How about being a man and taking responsibility for the murders you have a part in, the ones committed by the US government (I assume you're American.) instead of gasping about how everyone besides you is so scary and weird looking.
Lets say we all come to some agreement that Islam is either a religion in serious need of reform (leave out all of the surrounding details of govt instability in middle east, etc), or it is flat out bad, what is the actual solution you then propose after said agreement? What do you really want to be done here as an end solution?
You can't debunk "I". I didn't said there is none, I said I don't know of any. I'm absolutely sure there are some out there. There is rarely ever anything that is 0% or 100% when it comes to human beliefs among every single person in the world. But beyond that, the article he posted is explained by fchod0311. That's how I feel about them. When folks said it has nothing to with their religion, they mean their version of Islam. They believe the terrorists are a minor portion of it and they don't believe it as part of their Islam. That is pretty easy to understand. It's pretty clear that Islamic terrorists have an extreme interpretation of Islam. But some think it's not an extreme, but a mainstream interpretation and that is where folks disagree and that's why they understandingly said, it has nothing to do with them. But whatever you believe, what is your solution? I stated what I do not want to see (holy war) and threw out some not-at-all thought out suggestions and that include collaborating with Islamic scholars on what could work. But really, what is the solutions that you think can work?
This is not an intellectual exercise, or me looking for something to look down at. This is something that happens very close to where I am, constantly. I wish there was a solution, because it is not fun going to the airport or to public places with your wife and daughter and being more concerned than one should have to be. I am not looking for these terror attacks to happen. I am also not looking for intolerance and discrimination of women around me. However, I see it, every day, from Muslims. Heck, our nanny is Muslim (from Algeria), she is a lovely woman, very educated (university degree), very warm - but she was forced by her family to marry an older guy she had never met before. Do I blame her for still observing Ramadan and wearing a headscarf, after many years in a Western country? No. Do I look down on her? No. Do I wish she wasn't treated by her (unemployed, no good) husband the way he treats her? Yes. Do I look down on Islamists? Yes, they are ****ing idiots. Do I look down on all Muslims? No. Am I skeptical about where they stand on the spectrum of Muslim beliefs, so I sometimes avoid touching certain subjects when talking to them? Yes.
Why don't you tell us? It's one of the favorite "tricks" of lefties to deflect criticism of Islam by trying to place the onus of "coming up with a solution" on those who criticize Islam. I can criticize Islam as much as I want, without having to come up with the perfect plan on how to fix it. I'll say this, I think it won't be fixed for a long, long, long time, some truly horrible things will have to happen first, before the so-called moderate Muslims will finally stand up and fix it from within. Because I think that's the only way it will ever be fixed. The real problem is the apathy or tacit approval by the majority of Muslims. The biggest trick Mohamed and Islamic rulers pulled is to threaten those who disagree or who want to leave the club with death. Any association of people where you cannot disagree or leave the association without fear of repercussions is no better than the Mafia. And that's Islam. Not only the most extremist forms, but Islam as a whole. It's like the Mafia.
Those preaching intolerance need to be targeted. We'll see how keen they are to foment their evil when they know they will be targeted. Keep up the pressure on their training camps - a response should be forthcoming immediately a terror attack occurs. If it's war they want, it's war they will get. If there was a deadly disease breakout, internation efforts would try to eradicate it. Those preaching terrorism need to be targeted. We will see how keen they are to foment this evil once they know they will be targeted. If it's war they want, it's war they will get. If a deadly disease broke out, an international effort would ensue to erradicate it More political pressure needs to be brought to bear on countries that condone it.
You are equally apathetic about killings committed by the United States and the West. It's why you and the Muslims will be at each other's throats "for a long, long, long time." None of you think you are doing wrong.
Change from within, moderate Muslims have to speak up and call for all those "misinterpreted" and aggressive parts of Quran and the teachings in their society to be drastically changed. But there have been no indications of this happening, the Muslim community probably has to suffer in some extreme way or there won't be any call for change. The extreme suffering is already happening to many Muslims in ISIS-territory though, therefore it apparently is not that easy to motivate the majority of Muslims. They'd probably have to be victims of violence themselves in order to change their passive behaviour, but even then you'd have many still defending their religion and blaming terrorism on something else.
You guys life in complete echo chambers. Moderate muslims call for reform constantly, you just won't see them in the news sources you frequent. It's laughable to say that we need more moderates to speak out and then support a president who just took an award from Saudi Arabia lol.
When I posted a thread asking if promoting the death penalty for apostasy should be a crime, people either got upset and said they didn't think there was anything wrong with it, or they didn't understand the context of the question. How could anyone ever hope to not have people "politicize" such attacks when these attacks are political?
I don't support him. I thought him going to Saudi Arabia - at all - but certainly as the first country during his presidency, was a disgrace.
It's a stupid attempt. The guy who uses a knife stabbed two people. The ones who used guns killed dozens. I really wonder if the "they'll just use knives" people are really so stupid that they don't see a difference.
The good news is that Great Britain will never suffer another extremist Islamic terror attack ever again. We know because this is what Theresa May said, “While the recent attacks are not connected by common networks … they are bound together by the single evil ideology of Islamist extremism,” She used the phrase 'Islamist extremism'. Finally she took off the PC gloves and now England is safe! Yay!
