Well sure, there's a reason why Kenny would bring up Clutch City - it's highly relevant to his experiences in the NBA, which is what he's basing his analysis on in large part.

I think the season was ultimately a success relative to expectations and last year, but more importantly also ultimately cemented certain truths. Those truths being:

    - Our super star, alpha, leading #1 player consistently under-performs in the playoffs, both on the whole, and in the sense of having wtf games. Based on the flaws to his game, which seem to be in areas where those are/can be magnified in the playoffs, this seems like a trend that will be there long-term.

    - Our coaching is improved, but ultimately flawed and way too focused on offense. There's not an integrative whole approach here. Defensive... oh that's Bzdelik's category. And while I'm sure MDA recognizes its need, at this point we just have to look at his history. It is what it is.

    - The Moreyball/analytics approach, which they continue to double, triple and quadruple down on is flawed in some ways. Mathematically it works, I get it and still agree with it. But ignoring the mid range game reduces offensive options which means better defensive teams don't have to strategize as hard to defend. Which puts the team at the mercy of whether they are "on" or "off" from 3 that game

    - The players the Rockets added to fit the system as described above are ok. The only real thing about them improved from prior years is they stayed healthy. One completely shat the bed in the playoffs and he's on the worst contract. In any case, given what they have, they aren't well situated contract wise and would have to do some meaningful moves to create the cap space necessary to even add a tier 1 FA. The team obviously still remains meaningfully under-talented with no clear way to fix that.

    - They have no draft pick this year and will be more than good enough in future years to have any meaningful draft pick assets. They will ahve to draft EXTREMELY well for their position... the plus is DM does this at times.

    - I don't think star players are itching or even want to play with James. Yes, his current teammates have great things to say. SO do Russ' current teammates. Yet KD ditched him. And Dwight couldn't get along with Harden. And Lawson's game was neutered next to him. I mean, I'm just using the eye test. If I'm a player of Ryan Anderson's caliber, I'd love to join the team. Decent looks, high pace, good for my stats. If I'm a meaningful FA... not so much.

    - The GSW are a dynasty with no end in sight.

    - All the above noted... what the heck is the plan?? DM and Les, how do you plan to bring a championship back to Houston?? I don't think they have a real plan. Not that that wasn't clear before, but it's obvious now. How to enough interest and butts in the seats is Les' plan. To the extent there are plans, they involve woo'ing folks that hopefully, fingers crossed maybe might want to come - even though the likelihood of that is low and the additions making meaningful differences are unknown. Recall if things worked out as hoped for last year, the team would be + Al Horford on a pretty expensive deal and + Bazemore who is meh.

well... those are my ramblings, lol

TNT often mentions the 90s Rockets because the main TNT crew all have deep history with that 90s team whether as teammates or rivals.

They talked about the Hawks, Bullets, Supersonics, Royals, Nationals championships? Highly doubt it.

You might want to tell Pops and the Spurs they've never swept a team in the Finals then, because they think they have.

    Or the Lakers

2002 lakers and 2007 spurs say hi.

Why would they randomly bring up a rockets championship that happened in the previous millennium?

Hell even in Houston, you have to be born before 1987 or so to even remember the 94/95 teams.

Cleveland vs Goldenstate. Why should Rockets name be mention? They are not in it. But they may be mention rockets to talk about kevin durant's old thunder team mates.

A bunch of people were debating the legitimacy of the rockets chips after kenny smith said what he said.

That combined with jeff being a houston guy makes me think they might mention dream rockets once or twice

Yeah because people are always comparing him to Lebron. Lebron is in the finals. So it's bound to come up. Just like it comes up in clutchfans.

Everything (news, sports, entertainment) has degraded to whatever will provide the greatest possible ratings... it's all become pandering to the largest demographic available...

When you say being mentioned what exactly are you talking about. Surely not every single team that won a title will be talked about by the analysts, what sense would that make?

There is no Hakeem in Cavs and Warriors. There is no RudyT in both teams. And they ain't going to say "Don't ever underestimate the heart of a champion". They will not admit it, but Cavs, or Warriors championship were bought.

If it goes 7, the Rockets will likely make it into the intro video for Game 7. Otherwise you have to hope for the Rudy T quote to get in the pregame hype video. Otherwise I don't see it happening.
