Well the Texans have a ton of cap space right now, but obviously some of that will go to Nuk. If they worked things out right though I could see them pulling it off. It would for sure be a sign that the team is going all out to win.
As a #1 WR? Absolutely, but I think he'd thrive in a role where he wasn't the main option and could just tear people up in the slot.
I don't think Brown is in line for any more money per year, just more guaranteed money. As to Clowney His deal will be next year, not this year and I think that cap space will come from cutting Cushing.
same, plus they have the money to spend. I wouldn't mind him coming in as a role player. Braxton hasn't proven he can be that guy yet
That's an easy excuse for their poor play, but when WR's are having passes bounce off of their hands and running the wrong routes no QB is going to help them. That said, it's possible that we'll see improvement.....I'd still like to lock down a real #2 WR if all it cost was cap space. The team still doesn't have a QB so you want to give whoever is behind center as much help as they can get.
They'd be better served upgrading Weeden at QB with someone like Fitzy, adding another quality G like Paztor too compete for a spot and up the depth, possibly another OT although Breno was a starter for a championship team and it looks like Quiz is 100% ready to go, if there's a quality vet CB/S/OLB I'd make a move. I'm not sold on a lot of these young guys being second and third options behind the starters.
Why couldn't Ervin or Hunt be a slot receiver. There's a huge logjam at HB and both these guys have world class speed. Get the ball in there hands with blockers in front.
First of all, I'm not sure that Fitz would even be an upgrade over Weeden at this point and no matter what I don't see the team spending any serious cap space on a QB after tossing 2 first round picks into a QB. Secondly, I think the team is pretty well set at guard so that's not a place I see them spending any cap space. As to Tackle, yeah, they need another one but the rumor is that they like the guys they have with the notion that there's a guy that is going to step up this season. As to CB/S/OLB, it's not gonna happen, they already picked up another OLB a few days ago but I don't see serious money being spent on a 5th CB or a backup safety. I still think another legit receiving option that can catch the damn ball and knows how to run amazing routes would help the team more than just about anything else. Sure they could be, but that's just hoping that someone who hasn't shown an ability to do something could instantly pick up a new position. I think the team would be much better served by a sure thing even if it costs a bit more.
Weeden' value is 95% input and health of the QB meeting room. He's there for insight and emergency situations. I'm not so sure Fitzy's gunslinger mentality is better for that role.
Quick someone ask pancakes if the Texans are looking at Maclin. If he says no then Maclin is probably on the phone with Rick
He could, but they would rather save $10 mil this year by cutting Maclin. Plus their offense (especially with Alex Smith at the helm) was never WR friendly. Smith is always on the lookout for his TE (option 1) and then his check down at RB (option 2, 3, 4, & 5). No receiver has ever been able to succeed in that West Coast system with Alex Smith at QB. If put on this offense you could instantly slot him as the #2 wideout across from Hop or in the slot. Move him around. Let him work in space like he did in Philly. Alex Smith is the main culprit for all WR not having good seasons. Ty Hill won't be able to run back as many TDs as he did in his rookie year now that the defense can hone in on him but plan on Kelce and Ware to have career receiving numbers this season.
Doesn't matter if they had OBJ at receiver...their offense system, along with their players, doesnt allow for a WR to put up big numbers.
I'd be down for Maclin, doesn't he have some of the best hands in the game? He could teach Fuller a bit.
Others have already said it, cutting Maclin had to do with saving cap space, not that he's done. He was being paid as a WR1 and he's not a WR1 anymore. The reason they felt comfortable moving on is that they are really high on Tyreek Hill
