    ...but seriously, it doesn't matter.

I'm glad Adam Silver is thrilled with his shitty product.

NBA teams need a franchise tag or I truly expect a league wide consolidation of NBA superstar talent. Durant, the world's greatest beta, has ruined the future for the NBA. Individual cities without a current superstar are f'd...

It's all about the Small Forwards Sugrindkid.

Cavs: 1)LeBron 2)Richard Jefferson 3) James Jones 4) Korver (@ 6'7" is a SF imo) 5) JR Smith is 6'6" on some sites
War: 1) Durant 2) Matt Barnes 3) Iggy 4) Klay Thompson (@ 6'7" could pass for SF) 5) Looney

Rockets: 1) Ariza...according to 82games.com Dekker (Dekkar) logged in 31% of the team's mins at PF; 4% at SF.

Give me a couple of these guys to go w/Ariza & the Rockets will be right in this thing. (Free Agents)
    ..3P% 2016/17................Lt corner.......................RT corner......................Above the Break......................
    Joe Ingles.........................37.7%...........................47.9%.....................................45.9%....................................
    Gerald Green....................27.8%..........................46.2%......................................36.4%....from Houston area..
    James Johnson.................25.7%..........................48.1%......................................32.3%...................................
    Bojan Bogdanovic............37.2%...........................48.1%....................................34.5%...................................
    Gallanari...........................44.7%...........................39.1%.....................................38.0%....................................
    Sefolosha.........................33.3%............................33.3%.....................................35%....top SF defender.........
Jonathan Simmons...only 6'5" but plays much like a SF....Pop taught.....ready to take off as a top notch player.

IMO D'Antoni needs to abandon the multitude of PG/SG combo guys and add more SF's. It should improve
the defense as well since the 6'1"-6'4" guy is too easy to post up in the paint on forced mismatches. Bar-B-Q
chicken as Shaq likes to say. Forces help too often; which opens up 3 point shooting.

Don't give up Sugrindkid. Hang in there!!

What if every team in the NBA thought this way, everyone re-arranged the deck chairs and all end up worse. Wouldn't that be something?

I agree on the Rockets pursuing Simmons, they have seen his potential first hand. For a big I hope they can retain Nene or get Marisse Speights. Draft a stretch four and another G/F.

    1) Well, I had thoughts of trading maybe Lou Williams for Festus Ezeili (non guaranteed contract money).
    2) trade Ryno for a SF

Bringing in Gallinari to play starting PF since he is 6'10" like Ryan Anderson and
looks like a solid 240 pounds in 2016-17 highlights. Gallo would probably defend centers and PF's better than Ryno.
Ryan would have an edge on 3-pt shooting distance...but Gallo adds more offense as a driver /dunker.

Hard to get over the injury history aspect of Gallo. It seems greater than Ryan Anderson. In looking at the stats:

    Harrison Barnes: (16/17) 35.5 mins, 19.2 pts, 5.0 rbs, 47% FG, 35% 3P, 86% FT = $23.6 mil on the avg of his 4-yr deal.
    Gallanari: (16/17)............33.9 mins, 18.2 pts, 5.2 rbs, 45% FG, 39% 3P, 90% FT= probably something similar--plus

Lot of money for a guy who has a hard time playing 60 games a yr. Ryno might be the better option (at PF)

I can live with losing Lou or Eric Gordon if the offense/defense improves with the addition of a SF & PF.
    I could go with:
PG) Bev/Isaiah Taylor........draft pick(43 or 45) easier to find in 2nd rd than SF in this draft
SG) Harden/Gordon..........draft pick(43 or 45) easier to find in 2nd rd than SF in this draft
SF) Ariza.......add SF: PJ Tucker or Gerald Green or Bogdanovic or Simmons or Sefolosha
PF) Ryno/Dekker.......James Johnson (FA) might be an option as D'Ant likes guys like S Marion playing a PF.
    C) Capela/Chinanu/Harrell.....I would have traded Chinanu for a sandwich at the deadline. Now I think he contributes.

    Breakdown by position
    C) Looks to me like Chinanu has worked on his body while in the D-league. I no longer see him as having too much
"Baby-Fat". Chinanu will surprise people next season. I feel Capela established himself as a star in D'Ants system during the PO's. I no longer need to go after someone like Nerlens Noel. Bring Capela up to
28 mins/game and give Chinanu 20 mins. Harrell is the Rockets version of Draymond Green.
If Harrell rebound, block shots, shoot 3's half as good as Draymond; Harrell will see more playing time.
So how much does Nene want and for how many years?

    PF) see above

SF) I've told other people of Simmons for a few yrs now that he would be a player to watch. Simmons came
to play each night in the playoffs. Jonathan would excel in the Rockets/D'Ant system. Can Alejandro Gentile
come over this year? Looks fit on 2016/17 highlights. I'm still big on Aminu of Portland for the intangibles.
Perhaps Portland can be a trade partner. Sefolosha is top SF defender.....could help cut down on LeBron
or Durant point totals by 10 points/gm. Just need to put Sefolosha on the perimeter where he hits his 3's
best. With Warriors or Cavs they force mismatch of LeBron or KD on Beverley. In that case Sefolosha
would be forced on Curry or Kyrie. Sefolosha would be up to the task of guarding either in that situation.

    SG) see above

PG) Lou Williams is probably far better at hitting 3's than Taylor. But sometimes you have to break a few eggs
to make an omelette. Not sure Harden will let go of either Bobby Brown or Lou Williams....LA ties.

Why punish a team that got a 2 time map to sign for way below value becuz he had injuries? Why punish a team that was smart enough to draft klay Thompson at 13 and green in the 2nd rd? This ridiculous idea wouldn't even be brought if teams knew how to draft and develop players. I mean is on was a bust, Barnes looks good in Dallas, but he hit on steph, green, and klay. More has been here for 11 yrs and has yet to draft a all star caliber player. The spurs got the best 2 way player in the nba 1 pick after the rockets stated Marcus Morris! Let that sink in.

A franchise tag is a bad fix to a simple problem.

hardcap teams, don't cap individual players.

Teams shouldn't be able to pay 3 Kevin Durants. If we add another layer of complications without fixing the problem underlying, we'll go down like Hillary losing the middle class.

    THIS.
NBA GMs have only themselves to thank for Golden St. They seriously undervalued Curry, Klay and Draymond in their respective drafts. The Dubs stole Igodoula in a trade, and picked up Livingston when no one else valued him. Durant signing with them was icing on the cake but The "expert" talent evaluators of the NBA created Golden St. with their ineptitude.

They did not seriously undervalued Curry, Klay and Draymond. They simply undervalued the development of the draft picks.

Trade Ryan Anderson to Hawks for cash and a second. They'll need a replacement for Millsap. Rhyno is reunited with Howard and great fit. Dump Lou Williams for a second(or maybe land Covington).

    Players to target in FA
    Serge Ibaka
    Patty Mills
    Dewayne Dedmon
    Taj Gibson
Jamychal Green(maybe we can pry from Grizzlies)
    PJ Tucker
    Andre Igoudala
    CJ Miles
    Pat Patterson
    George Hill
    Willie Reed

With around $30 million in cap space my hope is we can land at least 2 MAYBE 3 of these guys.

under the new CBA, it'll be impossible for teams that aren't guaranteed title contenders like Cavs or Warriors to sign any All-Stars in FA because no one's going to leave 50 mil on the table to join another team that isn't guaranteed to make the finals like the Warriors can.

KD only left a crap ton of money for that ring. He's essentially buying his ring or buying a guaranteed spot in the finals.
Why would Hayward or Blake leave 50mil contract money on the table to join Rockets, a team that's lightyears behind the Warriors even if we have 2 All-Stars. The Warriors currently have 4 All-Nba level players in their starting line-up with a finals MVP coming off the bench who is a finalist for the 6moty this year.

Basically, to build a contender team in this era of superteams, you need to do it through trades and to receive an all-star level players, you need to have assets which means you need to tank for the lottery picks. But since Les refuses to tank, he's basically setting up Morey to fail.

yes ...free agents will get us where we need to be. It;'s worked out so well for us. let's just keep ignoring the draft and bet the farm on expensive free agent signings. winning strategy.

please, this is a joke. i don't want to hear another thing about free agency. We blew our wad on Ryan Anderson last year.

I hate being a rockets fan; it's an exercise in futility. it's hard to hate an owner who wants to win, but it's easy to hate an owner who is shortsighted and stupid with his decision making. It's hard to hate a GM as talented as Morey is, but it's easy to hate a GM who after more than a decade refuses to build through the draft, and has nothing but a western conference finals exit to show for it.

    DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eh, it's not like you can put this on Morey...we know who has the last word here, and we know he just doesn't want to tank. Hell, we couldn't even do it after Yao retired...look at what Hinkie did in Philly, i don't think Morey said he did a great job just because they are friends, Morey may not be perfect, but he's certainly not an idiot, he knows that tanking is the best way to get top tier talent and to build a winning team.

Frankly, its the only way in this super team era. Especially, if you aren't a top 2-3 destination city.

The teams coming up that look like they MIGHT have a chance at beating GS are philly and Mil in a couple of years.

GS had multiple top 10 picks and THAT is a main reason they are where they are now. Curry was 7, Klay 11, and Barnes 7. Yeah , they took green in the 2nd. A lot of that is luck that he developed that well, some of that is good player development staff, and some of it is that they weren't competing and could thus give green minutes ( so situation). GS made shrewd moves, but their situation allowed for them to have high picks and develop players.

Morey was constrained by Les. He didn't have a top 10 pick, and had a mandate of trying to win. It was impressive to maneuver into a position in which we could land Harden and Howard. We did this in 3-4 years ...right after putting together an amazing team in 08-09 ( most talented rockets squad ever if they could have stayed healthy )**

I don't know where we go from here, but 25+ other teams are asking themselves the same question. The only teams that aren't are the ones that have already been committed to full on rebuilding through the draft. Even boston is under pressure ( with all of its assets) to try and make the best squad or kick the can down the road a bit.

    Bingo, bango, bingo.

regarding GSW, nobody can fault them. I mean, that doesn't mean a franchise tag isn't an interesting concept. It would/could be... but isn't happening so why argue it.

But it does point to the obvious, which is in a salary cap league, you HAVE TO draft all-star caliber talent at some point. DM hasn't had the benefit of picking that high very frequently, and the one time he did turned that into Harden. But as noted the other time he did, he passed on Kawhi for Marcus Morris.

The alternative view is that DM isn't a bad drafter. He's probably above average. And the way Les hires people, the next guy could certainly be worse.

Bear in mind, that part of the reason you have to draft 1 or multiple all stars is because that's the only way you can get them on your team and afford them. So even though DM moved effectively the #9 pick for Harden (through a series of moves), he did so by also paying Harden at the time a big contract. Steph still makes less this year than Harden did his second year with the Rockets (but effectively his first year, as it was an extension he signed before he even played for the Rockets).

Notwithstanding the injuries that have crippled him - which admittedly DM might have known about at the time - this is also another reason why the Chandler Parsons declining of the team option to keep him for under $1 million remains so completely baffling.

Let that sink it... and then consider the team has no first round pick this year, and is looking at future first round picks at #25 or higher. And honestly, yes they can find an all-star at that level, but its obviously harder.

Is there a Spurs'esque move out there to move up into the early to mid teens and pluck a future HOFer?
