Even energy companies and banks like citibank are coming out saying that global warming represents a massive economic threat to the world and that most of the hardship will fall on the poor.

Where do you get this wealth transfer narrative? Every study not funded by an oil company is saying that it will cost all of us. Do you understand what warming will do? It will hit everyone from farmers to fishermen, from low-lying dwellers, to major metropolitan areas as a few inch increase in sea-level has massive impact on drainage systems across 2/3 of the global population on the planet, including the US. The bread basket will begin to yield less food. Mosquito borne diseases are already spreading throughout northern regions that they were never found before. It will affect the amount of energy used to cool us. It will affect ecosystems which feed us in incredible ways. Food production will decline and famine will nearly certainly increase. All of us will pay more for energy and food. All of that will reverberate through the entire economy.

The entire world including the majority of Americans know it's time to act. Corporations across the spectrum, 195 world governments, 1000's humanitarian organizations, and the entire scientific community, and even the freaking POPE are all in alignment.

And yet you and your fanatical minority of anti-science live-in-denial buddies think it's all a big conspiracy theory to control what kind of car you can drive!!!

History and your decedents will not judge you well.

The funniest thing about all of this is that the US Governemnt HAD TO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to make the Paris Agreement work.

what gives the game away is the lack of specific numbers of what the warming will be if we do nothing vs. something, what is the cost/benefit of doing nothing vs. doing something

it's mostly appeal to authority, or appeal to popularity of their position, or questioning/impugning motives of those with a minority view

the armageddon predictions are usually decades in the future to cover their asses, but now that the doomsaying has been going on for decades, we can call them to account

IMO it's not a binary issue either so you can't even say "something vs nothing" when it's "this specific plan vs nothing vs all sorts of different plans"

Science doesn't give specific forecasts like that, they can only give probabilities of ranges and assessments of risk. The point is the risk is very high that doing nothing will result in a lot of human suffering all over the world.

He really cherry picks. He assumes the Paris Accord will be the only global climate initiative, he assumes a lot about future technology, and most importantly he assumes climate change is the only reason to cut emissions.

He does exactly what he chastises the other side for doing, using a bunch of mental gymnastics to reach a conclusion.

Liberal - The planet is warming and the only way to fix it is more government.. all the worlds politicians agree!

Conservative - If you truly believe that in your heart, are you doing anything about the planet warming yourself?

Liberal - No, only the government can fix this through regulation and taxation.

Conservative - So how much is this going to cost and what will the impact be?

Liberal - It will cost a lot but I'm not sure how much and I have no idea whether it will do any good at all.

    Conservative - I think I'm out.

Liberal - You hate the planet and humanity and babies etc. you evil vile person.

    Conservative - Buys Tesla...

Is this what goes on in your head? No wonder you think the way you do! It explains a lot.

Most policy around solving this crisis is not through taxation, but rather investment in renewable energy. Of course that doesn't fit with your inner dialogue

    California Governor Jerry Brown says

'Trump has gone AWOL on Climate Change, but the Golden State is on the field, ready for battle'
America's unofficial climate change ambassador in the Trump era, heads to China to discuss trade and climate change policies.
"California already has several climate change agreements in place with Chinese regional / national governments," "We want to get a Chinese commitment to standardize their zero-emission cars with California so that we have a vast market, and will make it easier to introduce electric cars,"

California has the largest U.S. carbon trading system and frequently has hosted officials from China.
China has launched seven pilot regional trading schemes and plans to roll out a nationwide market this year. However the launch faces delays amid unreliable data and other regulatory problems, a government researcher said recently.

California's system, which is known as "cap and trade" already is linked to Canada's Quebec market.

"I think that is a heavy lift to include Chinese provinces but we are definitely taking that possibility very seriously," Brown said.

“We want to make sure it has full integrity and know exactly what’s going on. Maybe we don’t put it right in the same cap and trade regime, maybe some parallel regime," he added. "I am going to discuss that with the highest officials in China this week.”

This thread is not about climate change, it's about a specific non-binding agreement that wasn't actually going to impact climate change in any serious way even if we assumed that everyone stuck to their goals.....which we know wasn't going to happen especially when it comes to China and India.

    That's very amusing....

So you don't think the wealth transfer and controlling people's behavior will be worse if you have to move civilization off the now present day coastline. What if America's midwest bread basket is half as productive as it is now in 30-40 years?

You and your ilk remind me of the little kids too afraid of a little short term pain in getting an inncoluation.

It's like saying Christians aren't really Christian unless they decide to live a life of poverty like Jesus..... So many fake Christians out there......

What a dumb line of reasoning. At least no one is arguing about whether or not climate change is happening, good to see you folks learned to not argue against anymore. You've moved the goal post now..... now let's attack folks for not being environmental enough! ;)
