Lets try this one for you. The absolute worse defensive rebounding center out of all the players listed at center who played more then 5 games was Robin Lopez who averaged 13.2%. Udoh's career average is 12.5% If Udoh played in the league this year, and averaged his career average for defensive rebounding, he would have been the absolute worst defensive rebounding center in the entire league by far. That's 100% true.
You thinking Udoh would magically not be the worst defensive rebounding center in the league is hypothetical. All of his numbers point to him being a absolutely horrible defensive rebounding center. Houston needs better defensive rebounding at center. Udoh would be garbage on the Rockets for that reason.
Oh we definitely need better defensive rebounding. No doubt about that. But there's nothing magical about believing udoh is a better rebounder than Anderson and wouldn't be the worst rebounder in the Association. What's magical.....err mystical..... is believing what you believe without seeing him play. LOL Houston also needs better paint defense. Udoh would be a significant upgrade for Houston defending the pick-and-roll and in the paint.
He played 5 years in the NBA as from the ages of 23-27. Are you seriously pretending his rebounding numbers over 5 years doesn't represent his rebounding ability correctly? It's on paper, he's clearly a worse rebounder then Anderson in the NBA. If he averaged his career average, he would have easily been the worst defensive rebounding center in the association. His career average for defensive rebounding %, especially with him coming into the league as a grown man, is a very accurate representation of his rebounding ability. This is borderline delusional. Udoh is absolutely a horrific defensive rebounding center in NBA. There's no argument that can be made about it besides delusion. You want credit his defensive abilities, fine. You want to argue he's gotten better as a finisher or mid range shooter, go ahead. His rebounding? Has nothing to do with watching him, he's was and still would still be one of the worst rebounding bigmen in the entire league. Rebounding is not something you learn as a 30 year old man overseas.
There's years of footage to backup his dirt IQ. And if it's a former teammate(maybe JR on Nuggets or Deron Williams Mavs) saying it, his word is more reliable than anyone else so what makes the statement false. I don't get why people are defending this scrub so hard. Dont want this head case anywhere near Harden or the Rockets.
Actually not defending JaVale but reacting to the narrative that is pretty much obnoxious. And questioning the very idea that DD (no, not our beloved DaDa but DeDe) will 'only' get 3-4 mil in the summer.
QFT. No room for more Asshats on the Rockets. Need solid people around Harden at all times to have a chance.
Ekpe Udoh would certainly be a nice insurance big. Not sure why there is so much resistance to that idea. He is an NBA player, certainly. Dedmon is a backup C, and entirely outclassed by Clint Capela. Apples/Oranges.
You don't play basketball games on paper. You play on wood. You haven't seen him play. Without seeing him play you cannot accurately evaluate his skills.
This is the dumbest **** I've ever heard. Your point of not watching him play doesn't even correlate to the damn argument. He's gonna suck at rebounding whether he's being watched by @ThatBoyNick or not. Stats are the result of the performance on the hardwood fool. So if the stats say he can't rebound, guess what he's doing on the court? NOT REBOUNDING! And if you're expecting anyone to watch him overseas dominating the glass against weak comp to prove your point, you're r****ded.
Even If he can't defensive rebound, he has always been an excellent defender and offensive rebounder. Not sure why you wouldn't want a 6-10 rim protector off the bench for the type of cheap contract he would likely sign. Back line defenders like that usually get paid silly numbers. Fantastic Clint/Nene insurance. (He can knock down free throws too)
Defensive rebounding is the rockets biggest issue even over rim protection when Capela sits. Blocks are nice and all but it's about who can get down low and do the dirty work when it matters. Will never forget the game earlier this year where we got outrebounded by 30 to the T-Wolves. Just disgusting. Would rather see if we could get Dedmon who's younger than Udoh for maybe 5 a year.
Nothing wrong with wanting Dedmon at that price for his rebounding. Dedmon witted be an upgrade to Clint defensively at the rim as well. But to suggest that a person is a fool for watching players play and considering what they see rather than just looking at a number makes them a fool.......that's foolish.
I haven't said that. What I've said is you have no proof that he'd be the worst rebounder in the Association and you're not qualified to say anything about him if you haven't watched him play.
@basketballholic Out of the players listed at center who played at least 30 games with an average of at least 15 mpg from 2010-11 through the 2013-14 season, Udoh was the worst defensive rebounder. Thats 4 out of his 5 seasons. He had one season where he wasn't the worst, his 14-15 season, where he was the 2nd worst behind Robin Lopez. Udoh is a horrific defensive rebounder. And would undoubtedly be one of the worst if not the worst defensive rebounding center in the NBA. As he was for all 5 of the seasons he played in the NBA as a grown man.
If he comes to the NBA next season and you are correct, point it out to me at the end of the season. I'll give you props for being right without even watching the man play. K?
