These lists must be a thing right now. Can't believe Harden isn't top 3. And Dwert is #27. Media conspiracy.

The Top 40 players since the ABA/NBA merger
With this past year marking the 40th anniversary of the ABA/NBA merger, The Washington Post’s Tim Bontemps ranks the 40 best players in the NBA over the past 40 years – a task that is far harder than it sounds.

The key detail to consider in these rankings is that only time spent in the NBA since the merger counts. For example, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who had a stellar run up until the 1976-77 season (winning four MVP awards and a title) and Julius Erving (who was the face of the ABA) were only credited for their play in the NBA, after the merger, when determining their place on this list.

With that in mind, here are the rankings:

That's cool and all, but can we trade him for "winners" like Lillard or Paul George who are nowhere near this list or a guy like D'angelo Russell?

Would you give up James Harden for a competitive league with no rigging to give each and every team a shot at the NBA title? I would.

Why? Writers make crap pay and someone spent time making this. Can't comprehend this logic.

WaPo is fake news run by Jeff Bezos.

Should also archive BSPN links for that matter.

LOL so accurate. Clutchfans drools over guys like CP3 or Lillard that haven't even sniffed the Conference Finals.

CP3 a tad younger would have been one tier above Lillard.

I agree, but the way people talk about him is like he could do no wrong, yet he has a worst post-season resume than Harden, the biggest choke-artists in NBA history according to some on here

It said specifically post merger. So some of KAJ stats don't count.

One of these images is not like the others. It's so bright, it almost hurts my eyes to look at.

This is an awful list. Dwight is garbage. Why are KD, Westbrook, and JH on a list with champions and Hall of Famers?? Kobe, Kareem, Dr J, Dwade, and Moses are being completely disrespected. Shaq and Hakeem were better than Duncan, I don't care about his stupid padded stats. Dream and Kareem would of eaten Duncan, Shaq did destroy him. Garnett??? LOL.

They sure were quick to point out Jordan wasn't playing during the championships. I'm sure it was an honest mistake that they left out the part where Jordan DID play in 95, but got beat by the team we swept.
