You should be able to get what you're looking for for almost half of what you're looking to spend. I got a similar ring for much less. Don't get caught up in those ratings because there can be no difference from the naked eye. Just trying to save you for spending extra money for no good reason, other than male bravado.

Reiner's is a good local place. Ask for Irvin if he's working (he's the older gentleman).

My friend is his daughter haha! Yeah I'm worried about the color / clarity stuff but as long as the naked eye can't tell I'd rather save the money.

I was going to say, that a lot of people spent way more on rings than I did.

My wife's ring was around $5K. And that was pushing it.

Houston jewelry will give you a hell of a price. They're an importer. I ended up not going with them on my engagement ring, but I was able to use their quote to save about 20% on the ring I got at Robbins brothers. They got my wedding band business though.

Man some of you guys are balling. I spent $7k on my girls ring and I hated it. Such a stupid custom if you ask me, but my wife is suckered into that **** so I had no choice. I went to Shaw's and bought it there.

Retail replacement value $ 20,500.00. That's what the ring+diamond was appraised for by Jewelry Judge.
Assuming she gets nothing for the ring and 65-70% for the diamond...I would say 10-12K?

I know of a local jeweler who may be able to beat that price. He's a family friend. His store is in a shady part of town and it's not the nicest but he does good work. He was able to get me a good price on my fiancées engagement ring. PM if you're interested.

You spent $17k on a ring for a marriage that lasted a few years and she kept it? I know more happened than I know but sounds like you got screwed over. Sorry to hear that.

I never understand why guys feel like it is necessary to buy absurdly expensive shiny rocks. If she won't marry you unless you drop serious money on a freaking ring then she is not worth it. Diamonds are a scam.

    dated 11 yrs
    married 2 years
I did get screwed over. Not just with the way how it ended...but with what she took and how she handled things.

And you are right...won't get a diamond again.

What will really kill you is if/when you get divorced and have to sell the ring. I bought a 1 carat, white gold wedding set a few years ago on sale at Zale's for $1,500. They still sell it for $2,200. I took it to a pawn shop. They said they'd give me $175, they'd sell it for $500, and that I could probably get $700 on Craigslist. It's been over a year and I've dropped the price down to $300, still can't sell it.

If anyone needs a ring, hit me up, seriously. It's like a 6.5 but can be sized to any size.

I had a friend who was dating a girl for a long time. Told me he was saving up for a ring. I asked him what he was looking at, and he said it needed to be at least 2 carats. I asked him why and he said, "she said if it's not 2 carats, she won't say yes." I told him I'd have to find a new girl.

They're still together and seems like they're doing great. I just feel it was a ridiculous thing to say. If you're supposed to be together, you should say yes to with no ring.

Apparently a lot of women are like this now. Very demanding on type of ring, value, etc. My advice to any guy dealing with a woman like that: Recognize the red flag for what it is. Cracks become fissures and fissures become canyons. If she shows you she is that materialistic now it will only get worse.

My girl wouldn't say no, but I know she would feel sad / disappointed when hanging out with her country club friends and their rings. The money isn't a problem so no need to make her feel inadequate in public.

I would RUN. Your friend is a sucker. A 2 carat requirement? gtfo. I can only imagine what she is going to be like during their inevitable divorce. I know I am probably going to have to buy a ring one day and I am going to hate it. It is a ridiculous tradition that makes some shady people and corporations a shitload of money.
