Why would the game likely have been ours (looking at it then, not now)? Santana was pitching really well outside of a HR. Even if you take Peacock out after just a few of the hits, it's probably 2-2 at best in the bottom of the 5th inning. Again, virtually ALL of our games are competitive in the 5th inning - we're not used to it because we've never been this good, but teams like ours can't play every inning and every game like it's a must-win. At some point, you have to use your roster.
It's not any more counterfactual than assuming saving your bullpen for tomorrow or the next day will be of greater benefit.
