I can totally understand using maybe Feliz for the 3rd out, then letting JJ start fresh. But he was going to pitch in this game regardless: the staff is in flux right now, it's a long roadtrip, a long season, and you've got Fiers/Musgrove going next.. Hinch has to use the guys he has.

It always surprises me when fringe talent guys show up in the majors and they have a pot belly. Get in shape Jankowski, Jesus.

That Berkman guy just didn't amount to anything.

eta: I really wanted to like Shiner Blonde Light, sounded like a good all-day river/bbq/etc beer. It is totally tasteless. Boo.

He wasn't a fringe talent but no question if he were a more dedicated professional he may well have been a Hall of Famer.

The fact is, that with Morton and McHugh on the shelf, any game that isn't started by Keuchel or McCullers is likely gonna be a struggle. So the pen is likely to do some heavy lifting for the next few weeks, we can't just run the big guns out there in every close game if we wanna think long term.

Unless Musgrove or Fiers stabilize, we may just have to tread water for the next few weeks. Fortunately we have built up a cushion to do that.

What's this team's equivalent to "Spahn and Sain and pray for rain"?

David Ortiz would say "hi", but he's eating right now.

Might as well let him try to go as long as possible now. Save the rest of the bullpen.

So we concede the game. I would have never come up with that strategy

Yeah the game was conceded the moment Jankowski was brought in.

This is an overstatement. McHugh hasn't been here all year. So we are looking at one injury not two (in terms of keeping the status quo.) Replacing Morton with Peacock doesn't all of a sudden put this team into "water treading mode". So we don't throw Devo out there today, that's fine. But why would you essentially throw away this game based on the possibility of what might happen in the next game. What's to say the Astros offense doesn't get shut out tomorrow? We had one of the best pitchers in the league on the ropes, when Peacock was starting against him.

Let"s not act like a couple innings out of a big gun would have definitely altered outcomes moving forward.

    EDIT: FUUUUUCKK

Can't blame hinch .. Have to try to maximize your chances of winning as many games as possible , and can't wear down the pen.

Jank just sucked . I don't think anyone expected him to suck that bad . In his debut , he wasn't great , but he wasn't awful . Homeruns are always hard to predict .

Jordan just pitched like an idiot . Even Robbie grossman can hit your pitch if you give him the same slider 3-4 times in a row .
