Rockets will be under the cap. 11.7M in cap room, thus do not have access to the MLE for over the cap teams. Can use the "Room Exception" to sign Nene. I think that is 2.9M which is slightly over vet min.
As much as i like lou williams, i feel like he needs to go. Hes an expiring contract after this next season. Trade him for a young big and keep nene.
Rhyno has to go no ifs, ands, or buts about it. If we trade him for a second at the most we win the deal. He does absolutely NOTHING when he's not hitting. We have the exact same player who will happily come off the bench and makes a ton less in Wiltjer. Seriously what's the difference between him and Wiltjer. I'm sure we could unload him on the Nets for free. We sign Ibaka or Millsap whoever will come cheaper, then see if we can land Taj Gibson or Dedmon. Actually, I wouldn't be mad at unloading Anderson AND Lou Will, and then sign Patty Mills, Jamychal Green, and Gibson/Dedmon.
Why would Nene have a cap hold? Nene would become a free agent, we could use all of our cap, then sign Nene with the room exception for 2.9 million per for up to two years
Just looked at it. We are at $94-97 million in cap with Nene's cap hold ($3.477 mill) depending on what we do with Taylors non-guaranteed deal and whether we make qualifying offers to Bobby Brown and Troy Williams or let them float. The only way to pay Nene is with cap space or an exception. So our options to "pay him" are to give him all or a large part of our cap space at most around $11 million), or get him to accept the room MLE of around $4.7-5 million, or get rid of another guaranteed contract to create more space to sign him, or go over the cap through trades and exceptions signings and give him some portion or all of the MLE (approx. $6-7 million).
I think what Codman meant when he said that Nene was "robbed" was that the value of his play exceeded the value of his contract (could be wrong, of course!). He could have easily said that the Rockets got an incredible bargain when they signed the big fella, and we did, in my opinion. Awful timing with the injury during the playoffs, but that couldn't be predicted based on the guy's play all season. He surprised me. I'd like to have him back.
http://hoopshype.com/2016/11/04/hoopshype-explains-what-is-the-nba-mid-level-exception/ Yeah, 3.5 was the number. I guess it all depends on what Ne wants and who wants him back.
Move Lou, Trez, Ryno and picks to get into the top 10. Draft Markannen and the draft Kobi Simmons later. Test the waters with the Knicks to see if they are dumb enough to move porzingis or Markannen, Gordon, picks. Not likely, just roll with Markannen. Go hard after Hayward in FA. Go hard after Blake Griffin. If neither come then look at Gallo and Ibaka. Resign NeNe, throw some money at Patty MIlls. Ideally we get Hayward which gives you a bit of ball handling outside of Harden. Ariza goes to the bench as a back up 3/4. Onuaku moves into the Trez role are NeNe relief and spot duty big. Capela should show improvement. Markannen/Ariza/Wiltjer at the four isn't going to win a banging comp but Markannen is over 7ft so that will help a lot. Plus D'antoni can still play his style of play. Hayward at the 3 with Ariza/Gordon backing up. Bev still starting being subbed early for Gordon and Mills off the bench.
We would probably have to attach a top 10 pick (which we don't have) to Ryno's contract to move it. That is, unless the Cleveland Browns are looking for a stretch 4.
I love NenĂª so much and hope he is back on the team. We need players with his attitude in every rotation, not just when Beverley is on the floor.
We are in that window where we will take risks on signing Griffin and Milsap and do what it takes to move Anderson if getting one of the former occurs.
