Like somebody said tore up his shoulder and was never heard from again. I think he bounced around the minors for a bit. I met him at an Astros fan day, seemed like a great guy.
Marisnick's peripherals (.462 BABIP, 39% K rate, 31% HR/FB) pretty much scream unsustainable. Lets just enjoy it while it lasts. Marwin on the other hand is getting interesting. It isn't as if he's been terrible over the last 3 years. His HR rate is unsustainable, but his walk rate is almost triple what it has been. His BABIP is actually lower than recent years, and RHP aren't proving to be a problem this year. If you just factor in an improved walk rate (and maybe swinging at better pitches) onto his recent seasons he actually becomes a pretty valuable offensive player. Not saying with any confidence that this is the case, but a player making some adjustments and coming into his own at age 28 isn't unheard of.
I think guys have gotten a good combo of rest and semi-regular playing time (to keep fresh) thus far. Marisnick has seen a lot of game time due to being a consistent late-inning defensive replacement... moreso than I thought he would be utilized to start the year (but that's also reflective of having the lead so often late in games), and that has to go a long way to keeping his bat somewhat engaged thus far. Marwin's value is still largely based on his versatility to play all positions. He can give Correa, Altuve, Bregman, Yuli AND any of the LF'ers a day off any given day. The fact that he's hitting when given those opportunities makes him one of the most indispensable members of the everyday roster.
I feel like we're getting prime Ben Zobrist back... switch hitter, plays all over the diamond, sneaky power, late bloomer... Aubrey Huff can go **** himself!!!
Posting a 1.00 ERA (including a shutout) and scoring on multiple throwing errors more accurately explains it.
It takes several weeks to make those types of changes. Lots of guys have had 1 good game. Marisnick is the one who is closer to replacing Aoki. Also, Beltran isn't a sustainable everyday defender at this point.
Beltran isn't a sustainable hitter at this point, either, unless he has a rebound in him that I'm not expecting.
Yeah, unfortunately, he just looks over-matched in most at-bats. His bat speed clearly isn't there, and he tries to compensate by being more of a pull hitter, but that's very easy to protect yourself against as a pitcher.
Agreed, fortunately the team's success should give him a fairly large window for improvement, but that swing....yikes
He's pulled the ball just as much last year. The only real difference thus far is hard-hit %age is lower. He had solid post-May seasons in 2015 and 2016 from what I saw a few days ago, so hopefully he does that again. I'm holding out some hope
saw Fiers and Marisnick this morning eating breakfast. I kinda wanted to tell Fiers he sucked and give Marisnick a high five at the same time
Went golfing this morning. Blummer was hitting balls(laser beams) next to me. That or it was someone that was his long lost twin.
