I doubt Tilman has a helicopter because he figured out the cost vs benefit was worth it. Pretty sure he just has one because he can and he can sleep at night knowing he won't go broke because of it. When you have enough money to be able to drop it on a helicopter without thinking about it, then its the right time.
I sometimes stand in front of the mirror and whip my dick around like a helicopter. Doesn't cost a thing and only hurts when you hit one of your nuts.
Bill Burr lives in LA and has a helo just for fun of flying it. Barely uses it for time savings. Kobe takes a helo all the time and I don't think he even owns one. Both of those guys life in far more contested places than Texas. A small plane that could land on unimproved airstrips would be pretty useful in Texas. Diesel engines that can take Jet-A would be a plus you could store fuel at your residence or pvt field and hop around. Look into a motorcycle. Lane splitting is much faster than cars in contested areas and parking is a breeze.
I can tell you don't have the money because if you did you would know you don't buy a helicopter and hire staff
This is the correct answer. This is the wrong answer, again. Almost, but not quite as subtle as it may be too. Future planning is rich for the int. I like this but I would prefer someone else do it for me. And you. This is poor man's rationale. Can you afford a taco? I think so, even if you ask the taco shop vendor, how much for that taco. This is fiscal conservatism. But please, dine from the left side of the menu for life enjoyment.
So what did you do to go from asking how to build wealth to considering buying a helicopter in four years?
Well, there's obviously a specific number at which you can afford a helicopter. Though, if you have any questions whether you can afford it, it's probably pretty close between affording and not affording it, which suggests that it might not be the best investment out there. Unless you want this mostly for recreation. And you can't really put a price tag on that. I say go for it.
It's cheaper than what most ppl thinks (40k$) for a barley used one. But other expenses can top over 100k easily a year .the paperwork, permits, inspections, logistic etc , are the tougher parts
