Well you tell me what other player Harden can win a Championship with here in Houston? Please tell me who would come here willingly?
He doesn't make much more than Anderson, so sure, I'd take him over Anderson, but I'd highly prefer someone even better replace Anderson's cap number. Give me someone that can ball as our #2 highest paid player, not a specialist.
lets not forget how hard it is to just trade for one 2nd, or first, option. doing it again wont be easy. melo is an expiring, ryan is a bum, new york would be a team to accept that contract. would be more beneficial to kristaps having an elite stretch 4 next to him. harden needs another ball hog on his team and who better than melo, if we cant find anyone else? melo wants to redeem himself and is in a contract year so he wont screw around. he's underrated. only thing he wouldnt do better than ryan at the 4 is shoot. everything else the same or better.
mike can stfu if he's gonna keep running guys into the ground. he gets to torture melo in his contract year, should be fun
I hear ya... s'posed to be fun... then yer 'cornerstone' decides to blow off putting any real effort into an elimination game... and you get blown out by nearly 40 on your homecourt... good times! Personally, I think NBA contracts are too lucrative... everything being fully guaranteed doesnt help from a motivational standpoint...
I don't know if Tinman is joking in this thread, but i 100% would go after Carmelo. Your pipe dreams of PG13, Jimmy, Hayward are just not happening. Disgruntled star is the way we have to go. I don't know if it can be done, but if you can manage to get Carmelo and somehow get DWade, you might think Knicks disaster, but Harden separates us from that. Trade Ryno, and throw in Lou's expiring if you have to. Otherwise it's chasing Ibaka and Gallinari to set us up for an exciting and fun season where we once again get embarrassed out of the playoffs when we find were just pretenders. More than likely though...i see Spurs getting Cp3 and Wade and the Pelicans getting DRose and the Mavs will get Lowry and Millsap and the Rockets taking a step back in the division. It needs to happen for Harden to demand his way to LA after he becomes unhappy here next year. Of course by then, the Lakers will have already traded this years #1, and Ingram for Paul George and all that we will get is a late pick, and Jordan Clarkson. We are in the darkest timeline.
btw i hear that phil supposedly lowered melo's trade value by talking trash so a straight ryan for melo swap isnt far fetched. sucks for ny fans, a godsend for rockets fans. i dont think there'd be a better return for ryan. morey wil lget another chance to use that 20m per wisely. give them lou if they wont take juust ryan, we dont need him anyway. we need more defense and rebounding. lou can ball out in ny, ryan can bum out in ny. kristaps can die alittle inside knowing he's got the highest paid bum in the league on his team.
You're right but we don't know the whole story, for all we know James could've re-injured his wrist in gm 5 and got some meds that messed with him we don't know but I've never seen him play like that so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. As for his teammates who seemingly disappeared at the worst time possible, if he had a teammate like Carmelo who is ready to fire at will whenever he touches the ball and make plays, I doubt we lose by however many we lost by if we lose at all. Of those teammates the biggest scrub is also the biggest trade piece in Ryan Anderson. He actually fits the Robbert Horry stand in the corner role of the triangle offense pretty well but we paid him and relied on him as a third option when he should be a fifth option or really sixth option off the bench, Carmelo really just need a chance to get back in the playoffs, where he averages 26 and 7 for his career
Melo in theory would be a good replacement for Anderson, but in reality a more talented Ryan Anderson who thinks he's a franchise player is extremely likely to destroy the team. Would rather get Gallinari.
Phil has been known to sell low so you might be able to get him for a poo-poo platter but still, no. Spoiler Traded Tyson Chandler & Raymond Felton for Jose Calderon, Samuel Dalembert, Wayne Ellington, Shane Larkin & two 2nd round picks (Thanasis Antetokounmpo & Cleanthony Early) Traded Wayne Ellington & Jeremy Tyler for Quincy Acy & Travis Outlaw Traded Travis Outlaw & 2019 2nd round pick for Arnett Moultrie Traded Iman Shumpert & J.R. Smith for Lance Thomas, Lou Amundson, Alex Kirk & 2019 2nd round pick Traded Pablo Prigioni for Alexey Shved, 2017 2nd round pick & 2019 2nd round pick Traded Tim Hardaway, Jr. for Jerian Grant Traded a 2020 2nd round pick & 2021 2nd round pick for a 2015 2nd round pick(Willy Hernangomez) Traded Cash for Kyle O'Quinn (ORL has rights to swap 2nd round picks in 2019) Traded Jose Calderon, Jerian Grant & Robin Lopez for Justin Holiday, Derrick Rose & 2017 2nd round pick
I wouldn't mind Gallo either, he's younger and a better shooter but do you think they could prorate his salary for the 31 games per season he misses?
For a list of players more conducive to winning than Carmelo, please refer to a list of "all basketball players". But in seriousness, I think Harden needs a star SF/PF who is a playmaker at that position. Melo fits that role but he has too many red flags and a history of being a punk and a disruptor. I hate Blake Griffin but I'd take him over Carmelo. Hayward certainly. Free agency isn't the only way to acquire players. Morey has time to keep a pulse on several imploding teams and pick up productive guys. Remember that Harden was just a great 6th man until we picked him up and he became a superstar. Going into the off-season with Carmelo as plan-A is just foolish, and lazy thinking.
What was Melo's and MDA's relationship in Denver, Team USA? Do he and Harden exist in speed dial n each other's phone?
