They probably feel bad for him and don't want to be seen as a cut throat organization like the rest of the league. They're too nice.
Or they've seen offensive tackles getting crazy cash lately while Newton just makes 5.5 million dollars a year. So they have no issue with giving Newton time to see if he can come back at some point.
Because he injured himself playing football for their team, he may never play football again but they want him to continue to rehab on their dime as a token of gratitude for services rendered. I'm pretty sure once they can get him to some semblance of strength in both knees again we'll hear about his release-injury settlement
Because the Texans have class unlike what many people think around here. They did the same with Quessenbury as he battled cancer.
I love D'onta's mannerism. He has a presence to him. Not your typical ho-hum answers. Seems comfortable in front of cameras.
At OBie's presser today, he said that Newton is there early everyday, works hard on the rehab and leaves late. That is the kind of veteran presence the Texans want to keep around. OBie also said that he expects Newton to recover in time. It was a presser so it is anybody's guess whether OBie was blowing sunshine up our asses or not.
Sounds about right. Didn't he get some special designation so that he did not take a roster spot but what they did was classy since they made sure he'd have great healthcare. Now for Newton I doubt if they cut him he'd lose his insurance. The only thing he would lose is the game check. Also my understanding is that they believe he will come back but not as RT. Likely Newton would be moved inside or that's what the likes of Pat Star, Jason Braddock and Lance Zerlien are thinking.

Listening to Pancakes on the radio...he constantly makes it seem like there is no chance Watson starts. Watson will start the moment he equals what Savage can bring on the field...that can happen in the preseason, it can happen within the first few weeks of the year, or it might happen next season...but to just say "No way Watson starts", as Pancakes keeps saying, is ludicrous.
McClain is likely parroting his only source inside of NRG. Sad, considering the guy has had to literally eat his words before.
