I gotta say Jake is really coming into his own. What a damn throw!! I still can't believe Giles did it again, but oh well. His days are numbered.

Yeah, tomorrow would be a huge step for Lance. We are going to need him to deliver in games like this.

Cool by me, the way it's always been. Stros need to do their thing and let local media take precedence.

I really like McCann he gave all the credit to Jake but you're right he deserves some too and basically said he enjoyed his time with the Yankees but it's all about the Stros now.

This is the year of the Stro.

We don't see too many years like this but the ancient Chinese gods (and Rick Flair) have dubbed this the year of the Stro.

    Lets's take it home Stros!

That walk that Aaron Hicks drew off Ken Giles last night was Giles' first BB in a month.

And yes... there is also that issue of allowing all of Dallas Keuchel's runners to score in Anaheim.

Of course not, if its greater than 1, but he won't close for this team in the playoffs, so ill deal with it.

I guess you could want Harris there, but flipping Giles to 8 really doesn't change much as they generally pitch in the same game.

    A couple of things.

First the play that Bregman made in the bottom of the 5th to get out of that jam was incredible!!

DK in the bottom of the 6th striking out Judge, Headley and Gregorius to get out of the inning with no further damage!!

They are going to have to do something eventually. IMO Harris will eventually get another shot, If the situation permits Devo will get another shot too. I get that we have a great record, and we have been able to salvage some of his bad outings, and in a perfect world it won't be necessary, but I just don't see that.

Cy Keuchel is back. Most of us expected the 2014 Keuchel not the 2015 Keuchel.

Firstly, we won the game and that shows we are definitely a team that can take down teams that are good and been playing well, but I now getting concern with our closer. Giles gotten many saves so far but I am not convince yet he can be counted on to down the important games in September and the playoffs. I hope I am wrong.

Devo may get some closing opportunies, but Hinch has implied at least a couple of times that Astros value having a flexible guy that they can deploy against high leverage more than a closer. Hinch has basically said that Giles failed at that role last year and was demoted to closer. Whether Harris gets another shot or not doesn't really matter, leverage is about the same between his current role and closer, though not being shackled to closer role has allowed Astros to deploy Harris against more leverage this year.

For a significant change to be made to get Giles out of situations with high leverage, Gregorson, Hoyt, Paulino, Martes, or Feliz, has to move into one of the top three leverage spots in the bullpen. I doubt Astros go outside organization for even more relief. If something has to be done to get Giles out of high leverage situations, the most reasonable solution is Gregorson. At this point, putting Gregorson over Giles in high leverage situations doesn't look very reasonable.

    Well, looks like someone's bothered.

But hey, I'm just dying to hear about how the strength of the Astros' schedule got worse after last night.

    Let's see:

Astros beat NY so NY got worse.
Royals beat the Rays - that's a wash
Blue Jays beat the Mariners so Seattle got worse (and since they have played them a lot, that really makes the schedule easier).
Rangers beat the Padres so Texas got better but not better enough to offset Seattle's loss.
Tigers beat the Angels so LAA got worse (see Seattle)

In essence, after last night, the Astros have had an even easier SOS.

If we make the playoffs the closer situation will cost us then. It is our weak link right now. Giles has done well lately but hes too shaky. Harris and gregerson have proved very average there. We need to aquire a top closer to go with all of our 8th inning guys.

I saw your post before you removed it. You are not counting the blown save he had last night before Jake saved his ass, you are also not factoring in his multiple unclean non save appearances? Dude, not even hinch has full confidence in him. He isn't used like he is a shut down closer because he isn't one, and if he can't become more dominant, he won't be the astros closer in the playoffs.

I don't care what they try....I don't care who is called what, but if Giles doesn't get better they will try something eventually.
