Agreed. Clint has to show up again this game with Nene out. We really need him 25-30 minutes with minimal foul trouble if possible. Show up again big fella! I also think Anderson, Harden, Ariza, etc. will surprise with their low post defense and boxing out.
His peepa has been filling out nicely the past couple seasons. Hopefully nene has passed the spirit of the giant D on to him
Not sure if it's right, but i think Nanu would look better than that if we would play him today...or not?
He has played NBA minutes for 3 years and is still slow to rotate defensively and still not strong enough in the era of skilled 7ft, 250lb centers. Send him back, it's pointless. What are we going to give him till he's 24? 25???? Should have traded this bum for a draft pick. What a waste of time waiting for him to develop. He's only doubled his FT%, gotten much stronger, become more coordinated, almost developed a hook shot, runs the pick n roll beautifully with our franchise player and is a good rebounder. But what's the point when he has insurmountable weaknesses at this advanced age? We need Thon Maker or Cole Aldrich.
This loss pissed me off, but Clint is playing very well. His rebounding and shot blocking / contesting make such an impact on the the game. I'm seeing the Spurs players are scared to drive when he's in the paint now. He's leading the playoffs in blocks at 2.7 per game, leading in DBPM. We just DESPERATELY need better defensive rebounders around him. Clint is a solid defensive rebounder but he has to go contest so many shots because of our bad perimeter D, and nobody else can rebound while he's out contesting. And that's just when he's in, when he's out it's 10x worse with Anderson/Nene/Harrell playing center. Our defensive rebounding and perimeter D needs to be greatly improved this off season. Our offense in overtime was horrible, BUT it was all the offensive boards we allowed and bad perimeter D that was the death of us, we would have blown them out by the 3rd quarter easily if it wasn't for those 2 deficiencies.
He's a non-Factor. You can pump Capela all you want. But he's a non-factor. While I will admit his highlights make him look very good, hid highlights only account fit about 5% of the pay he is actually involved in. it's the non-highlight play where he looks bad, the things that go unnoticed except by the trained eye. All the crappy picks and rolls. Once again, way too many times he doesn't make himself a target or he gets caught up inside and can't even get up to set the pick. Teri plays like that negates 5 blocked shots on the defensive end. Defensive rebounding? Simply pedestrian and very wanting for a 5 msn in the playoffs. I could go on here but I won't. He's not nearly good enough.
Clint is Swiss...AND Congolese. I know firsthand that he feels a part of both those countries. Just like Giannis is Greek AND Nigerian. Like so many other people and players (especially in the NFL, who were born and lived in America but have Nigerian parents).
Capela is one of Morey's late first round gem picks. He has been a beast in this series and a huge factor for the rockets.
How so? I feel like offensively, when he's not producing stat-wise, he is contributing similar to the way a good defensive end in football does when they draw double or triple teams. The defense is forced to account for Capela, resulting in opportunities for others to make plays. A lot of Lou's seemingly bad offense can be a positive too IMO (but not last night).
If an apple seed got planted in an orange grove and grew up into a tree among oranges, it's still an apple...
He makes a big impact on defense and rebounding, the biggest impact in both categories on the whole team. It's clear as day except to someone who has a vested interested in their pro scouting being correct. I don't talk highlights, I talk numbers. The only two comments you made in your post, called him a pedestrian defensive rebounder, and said he doesn't set picks. 1 Clint isn't an elite defensive rebounder (28-35% range), but he's in the next tier which is a good defensive rebounder. He is better then average, his defensive rebounding percentage is 25%. Average is about 20-22%, bad is around 16%, absolutely horrible(Anderson) is around 14% and lower for a bigman. You know this. 2 Again, it's clear the our bigs are told to slip screens frequently. Still, I see Clint set multiple solid screens every game. He, just like Nene, slips an incredible amount of screens. I haven't heard you complain about Nene's screens, or even rebounding yet. I would say a hard pick would be likely to lead to some screen assist right? Regular season Nene averaged 2.7 screen assist per game , Capela 2.5 per game. Playoffs Capela 3.6 per game, Nene 2.8 per game. Both are low compared to other big men, but again, it's our system. Hilarious. Keep grasping at things to call Capela trash though. What happened to David Lee outplaying Capela again? I haven't seen it in his 4 points and 3.4 rebounder per game, perhaps it's my untrained eye though, he's probably dominating Capela right now with all of those hard picks.
