No he's still training in the hyperbolic time chamber, he's about to show the world he's on Durant's level next season.
IF: 1. Gay is definitively 100% healthy 2. Rockets can't attract and find cap room for an obviously better pick-up. 3. And therefore Gay comes cheap and fits into their current cap room right now (eg. $12 million a year or less ... he's opting out of $14 million but with the guarantee of a 2nd/3rd year might take less coming off that injury)... THEN... he's a surprisingly interesting option. Can play both forward positions, can rebound, can score, has decent efficiency that you could convince yourself might get better - that is I can see him scoring less but on better efficiency on this squad with a known and not to be deviated role. He doesn't exactly scream NBA Finals addition, but it is what it is.
I'm going to bet people saw what happened with Wes Matthews + Kobe after their achilles injuries and his market value will tank. Still don't see him going cheap enough to where he'd be a valuable pickup for us, but if his price gets low I can see Morey taking a flyer on him.
Wes Matthews got a huge pay raise despite tearing his Achilles. And Dallas added extra when Deandre Jordon got scared and backed out on his commitment
I know and look how his career has turned out so far. Overpaid trash. I doubt Rudy Gay gets the same benefit of the doubt.
Why the hell is this in the GARM? Did Gay play for us at some point? Is he from Houston? Is this the off-season? Have Morey or anyone of importance made comments about Gay making his way over here?
Yeah I don't expect Rudy to unless he just finds the right situation where someone is desperate but then again that spot would likely be a losing one
Maybe as a backup 3 or a small ball backup 4. Would only get him for a low cost, even if he'd play Dekker's role. Though still a little inconsistent, I like his rebounding, athletic ability as a 4, and he's not a bad shooter for a 4, and can get hot.
