Stros have scored 69 runs 7th inning or later. That's a 2 per game average. Six per 9 innings if extrapolated. Stros' .315+ BA close-and-late is the best in league history unless I misread. 13 comeback victories
But it was essentially a conventional save last night. None of the runners on base were relevant to the game. 4 run lead with the bases loaded - letting the 3 runners on score is irrelevant, except to Keuchel's ERA. If anything, they just give the pitcher potential extra outs through double plays. But it's the same situation as coming in with a 1-run lead with nobody on, which is exactly what you'd expect to bring Giles in for. I'd agree that it's different if it was a 1-run lead with bases loaded and no out. In that case, you really need strikeouts, which is something Devo is our best at. But with a 4 run lead, you really don't care if those 3 runs score. The only goal is prevent anyone else from scoring, which is a typical closer situation.
Except as closer Stros looking to go-ahead off a wild pitch K. Altuve has entered the game as a baserunner. Oh my* *omg, he just got thrown out
