Brett Adcock turned in another fine outing for Quad Cities: 5 IP, 4 H, ER, BB, 10 K Quad Cities leads Fort Wayne 4-1; the 4 runs came on a pair of 2-run homers from Alex De Goti and Marcos Almonte.
Adcock's final line: 6 IP, 4 H, ER, BB, 11 K He now has a 37:7 K:BB ratio in 23.2 innings pitched. Not only does he seem to be over his torn ACL last year, they appear to have found something to mitigate his well-documented control issues; IIRC, he walked 62 in 78.1 innings at Michigan last year. Almonte added a grand slam later on. Oz Ocampo tweeted out "keep an eye on him" last year. He and his team have really done an outstanding job in restoring the international pipeline. I believe they got Almonte for a scant $35K. De Goti has tailed off a little lately, but he did have a 6-game hitting streak that included a 4-4 outing a couple of weeks ago. He was a 15th-round pick last year... college senior who had a non-descript debut in Tri-City. He's drawn a fair amount of walks. Not sure about his bat yet but he could be an "outperform the expectations" kind of guy, especially if he shows that he can stick at SS.
Hector Perez, in his first Carolina League start: 5 IP, 3 H, 4 R (2 ER), 2 BB, 7 K Buies Creek only scored in one inning, but it turned out to be enough as they beat Myrtle Beach 9-4. Sebastian Kessay followed by allowing a hit and fanning 4 over 3 scoreless innings, and Nick Hernandez struck out the side in order in the 9th.
D.J. Fisher went 2-4 with a double and an RBI groundout for Fresno last night; he's now on a 9-game hitting streak.
DJ Fisher is carrying a .300 average in AAA, and that's a very promising sign. That has been my main concern with him. Can he carry a decent enough average to allow his other plus tools to play. When you are down in the .260-.270 range in the minors, it doesn't bode well for your average in the show. It's extremely difficult to walk enough to support a .230-.240 average. If he can hit .270 in the majors, he has a chance to be a really valuable offensive player.
Aiken has been less than stellar so far this year. Hopefully he continues that trend tomorrow and Perez looks good.
Aiken has gone Full Mark Appel ... never go full Mark Appel Seriously what is Aiken doing in low A ball; he is obviously not ready.
That's the speculation. Still holding out hope for musgrove to minors and peacock sliding in to rotation
