I feel the same way. I can't believe we actually drafted a QB in the 1st round. The way the draft fell, and that the Texans were actually able to get this guy is very exciting.

When was the last time a rookie QB didn't start at some point yet went on to have a great career? Aaron Rodgers? Who am I missing? Cam, Wilson, Luck, Dak, Wentz, even Goff and Tannehill. They all ended up starting at some point in their first year. I don't know why. If you have a QB that is special, you find a way to get him in the game I guess

I assume you mean didn't make a start his rookie year? So, yeah - Rodgers. Steve McNair. Carson Palmer. Philip Rivers (sat two years).... Brock Osweiler. (Just kidding.)

He'll start at some point this year.

So, Rodgers was the last one huh? I'm really asking because I can't think of any after him.

I believe so. But I think he's also the last currently good QB who was drafted by a team that was previously in the playoffs. The vast majority of good QBs were drafted by bad teams. Even Roethlisberger was taken the year after Pittsburgh's only losing season this century.

So it'as a pretty unique situation for Watson. Of course, Green Bay had Favre; the Texans have Tom Savage and the ghost of Brock Osweiler.

Wouldn't Russell Wilson fit the "currently good QB who was drafted by a team that was previously in the playoffs"? Maybe it is a "currently good QB who was drafted by a team that was previously in the playoffs and has a clear QB". In a lot of ways, the Texans are similar to the seahawks when they drafted Wilson. The big difference is that the price to get Deshaun was much higher. And Wilson had a less decorated college career.

Seahawks weren't in the playoffs the year before they drafted Wilson - in fact, they had suffered through four consecutive losing seasons.

And if I didn't clarify, I meant "previously in the playoffs the year before." Likely assumed that was implied but to be more explicit - that's what I meant.

Not the year before but the seahawks were in the playoffs in 2010 and then in 2012 with Wilson. They had back to back 7-9 seasons (in comparison to back to back 9-7 seasons lol), one of those was a playoff run where they beat the Saints in the 1st round.

Right; they were not in the playoffs the year *before* they drafted Wilson. Also, they were 7-9; I mean... people here are complaining about 9-7 playoff trips......

Point being, most of the currently good QBs went to bad teams where there was much greater urgency to play them than it might be here. I mean, the Texans can probably go 9-7-ish if Savage is merely pedestrian, given the weapons on offense and defense.

Watson's 1st game. Not as starter but he looked great.

I'll say this... if he IS good, he's going to be a GIANT star in the NFL: good-looking kid with a great story who has/will keep his nose clean. The league is going to fall all over itself to make him one of its faces. And the Texans' profile is going to rise right along with him.

I'll also say this: if the offense sucks, it's not necessarily because of Watson. Our offense has been mediocre for awhile.

Especially our red zone offense. I think Watson and Foreman will help in that area.

Does it depend on if he is Andre Johnson good or JJ Watt good. Andre Johnson is very low-key and keeps to himself whereas JJ is all over the place. Both are "good" guys and stay out of trouble. But one got much more attention than the other. He does re-tweet a lot of stuff about himself
