I think Rick did too. He was there in person for the national championship game. Kept referring how many big time throws he made

Most scouting reports said Watson didn't go through full progressions.

Not that he can't or won't learn, but he didn't have to in that offense

Patrick Starr was talking about how the only QB that O'Brien would have taken over Clowney was Mariota but Mariota chose to stay in school. O'Brien loved Mariota as a prospect. Watson has a lot of similarities.

And most scouts could be wrong. At least one college coach seems to think/see that he has the ability. I mean he did just say it himself.

Most scouts said the same about Cam Newton, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees, etc. etc.

Point is, these kids ALL have question marks and skills that need development and improvement. If you read the top half of the article a few former QBs point out how handicapped almost ALL QBs and defenses are in college football now a days.

Not sure if this has been posted in here already or not....but NFL Network is airing Deshaun Watson: One Shot tonight @ 9 central...its a piece that covers the 3 months of prep leading up to the draft. Should be an interesting look at the new QB...just figured i would pass that along for whoever might be interested.

Q: Feel like you've spent more than a decade of your life as GM of the Texans?
RS: A blessing. 10 years in Denver, 12 years in Houston.

Q: Exciting weekend last week, decision to move up to 12 to get Watson. Tell me the moment you knew he was the one you wanted to go get?
RS: Not sure if there was a single moment. Culmination of lots of research and work. Process. Had a wish list on draft day. He was on that list. He's a leader at quarterback. Documented how he came in our building and impressed. Meetings at combine, scouting, etc. Everything came together.

Q: All different opportunities to speak with him, contrast with Brock last year. How much did you learn from last year?
RS: Different situation. Lots of communication with Deshaun.

Q: That's the thing, all that stuff moving forward, the feel etc. How do you extrapolate winning at college level to NFL? (
RS: Wasn't just isolated to impressive wins in college. Go back to High school. Go back through his life and look at adversity. When we talk about him as a winner, it's a mentality, not just college. Way he lives his life.

Q: When you thought about move up to 12, does the conversation come "Why aren't the Browns taking this guy?
RS: No, only thing we are doing is exploring our options. Put our feelers out to them that we might be in play to trade up to 12. Not wondering what someone else is doing, only worrying about your ducks in a row. Want to go get the guy you want, not worrying about other folks.

Q: When you make that kind of investment, how involved is ownership?
RS: Ownership is in the room and actively involved. I have great relationship with Bob and Cal McNair. They are involved in draft preparation. As I was calling around to look for deals, Cal was in room with me.

Q: What's the reaction (physical and emotional) once you pull off deal?
RS: Obviously some satisfaction and appreciation and joy after all of those moving parts. Sense of accomplishment. Very temporary though as you are immediately thinking about next opportunity, next move, next round. Great part is calling the young man.

Q: He had some great performances in title games against Alabama, but knock is interceptions. Not going to have fewer when you face NFL. How much of that is a concern?
RS: I'm always hesitant to talk about "concerns." There are realities about what he needs to work on; footwork and accuracy. We can help him be more effective at this level. All of these guys have things to work on, magnified at QB position. Have to determine if they have aptitude to do things you are going to ask them to do. We think he has qualities to play at a high level at our level.

Q: Now you have Savage. Let's play this out, if he stays healthy and plays well, that delays timetable for Watson. How concerned are you about Savage becoming the guy?
RS: Not fearful about that. General idea around that question flawed. We like competition, competition brings best out of people.

Q: Competition at running back adding Foreman at running. How do you envision split?
RS: We all realize you have to have couple different running backs. We like lots of different styles, tempos, etc. We think he is a good mix and add to that group. Different types of runners, good addition to the group.
