He would have been able to pitch a full 8 today if he didn't throw an excessive 116 pitches last game.
Hinch had already let him start and get the first two hitters. If Keuchel gave up another hit after the the hit he allowed then yes go ahead and take him out but he could have given him a chance to get that next batter after the hit. Gregerson came in shaky but got out of it without too much damage thankfully.
Pretty much the exact situation as his last start. So why is this "exactly the kind of game where you pull him early" and the last game wasn't? Also going 7 2/3 is early?
it was an absolutely moronic decision to pull him with two outs and a runner on first. We have seen him REPEATEDLY given the opportunity to work out of higher leverage situations in late innings. Hinch put a run on DK's era. unwarranted bad, awful, terrible decision. So now gregerson has cost DK a win, and an ER.
