Sam Dekker shoots 12% from threes before breaking hand. He will drop to 5% from my calculations. I made those numbers up but I'm sure most believed it.
I hope his late season doldrums were just the rookie wall. He was really electric in the first 3 months.
I think it probably was. The games, the travel...he was a huge boost in the early going. Definitely not a sag in his effort and hustle but the production just fell off.
Also take into account how much work it took in the offseason to get into incredible shape and probably work on his 3. If he spends this summer getting a bit stronger and focusing heavily on hitting 3's, he will be an incredible backup 4 next season. I wonder if he'll be ready by game 2. If Anderson is struggling, Dekker might be able to give us 5-10 minutes.
Even if he's cleared to play, it would probably takes a while for him tp get his shooting rhythm back. I remember Kevin Love broke his hand a couple years ago and shot like crap for months when he returned.
he may come back better shooter than he was... learning curve sometimes dips before rising in spite of effort and practice involved.....and sometimes you need to stop practicing for new learnings in nervous systems to take roots...
If Sam's far enough along and has been practicing, then it's completely plausible that he could return beyond the rookie wall, well rested...and with a better understanding..where things slow down a bit. Under the right circumstances, Dekker could come back and give us a big lift.
Please don't shoot anything outside of the paint. U are a horrible shooter and will probably never be good at it.
When we first acquired Beverley, people said he couldn't shoot. He's now made himself into a good shooter. Many other players were thought to be poor shooters before becoming very good shooters. It would be foolish to assume that Sam will never improve his shooting.
