Part of the reason people are down on Watson is that he was a bronze SEMTEX QB prospect

and bronze SEMTEX QB prospects basically never pan out

And you can take a look at the company he's in by checking out the other recent bronze rated SEMTEX QB's

Then realize that we traded next year's first round pick for this.

    Per the article:

As we discussed, just because you are in the Gold bucket doesn’t mean you will be good NFL QB. But to be successful at the next level, you clearly need to be in the Gold group or in the Silver one with top level arm talent or mental processing skills to pair with it, or the deck is stacked against you. And when paired with other parts of the NFL draft process, such as evaluating a player’s translatable traits on tape, determining scheme fit, checking to see if prospects have baseline physical size and athleticism measurables as we put them through interviews and medical checks to eliminate undesirable Gold prospects, SEMTEX should become even more effective in application.

You know, I will take those 2 games against Alabama as a HIGHER metric than this attempt at analytics.

So...someone comes up with the new analytic. He applies it to the past.......but we don't know if he tweaked the numbers to make it look like an accurate predictor because it didn't exist before. So, you put all your eggs in a basket that hasnt proven it is correct? REALLY>?

He will get stronger. His footwork (throwing from flat feet) will improve...which will help the exit velocity. His mechanics will be tweaked. Stop worrying about some metric...and watch game film.

Not to mention, it's hilarious that Bobby refers to a metric that has seemed Russell Wilson, Cam Newton, and Dek Prescott as 3 of the 5 best Gold QBs over the last 18 years, along with Jameis Winston, Blake Bortles, and Jay Cutler as the 3 of the 5 best Silver QBs. All of those players have been deemed highly overrated or just bad by our resident QB-non-expert.

Pretty sure if we had picked up a Gold QB the last few years that Bobby didn't like, we'd never have heard about this random system. There are plenty of reasons to dislike Watson, but I'm pretty sure no one here was down on him because he was Bronze QB, given that no one had probably even heard of this system.

The SEMTEX QB grenade explodes in the creator's face the moment you realize that 3 of the top 5 GOLD QBs since 1999: Wilson, Brady, and Prescott, were all drafted in middle-to-late rounds of their respective drafts.

Therefore, this mumbo-jumbo metric is being applied retroactively as if it were a sure fire thing.

My money is on the Alabama tapes. Any QB who can bust a Nick Saban defense twice is a GOLD QB in my book.

So, to you 2 college football games are a "metric"? Solid. I'm sold. Let's ignore everything because he had such awesome justwinz in 2 college football games.

Anyway, we'll see what happens, but no one should be surprised if Watson ends up a bust. It's funny talking to Texans fans and being reminded of Titans fans defending Jake Locker. Oh well.

I think it's hilarious that you ignore a metric simply because it says something you don't like....but I guess I should have expected that.

Also of note, being a "gold QB" doesn't mean that you'll be successful, it just means that you have a higher chance of being successful than those in lower tiers....but I'm sure you knew that if you read what I posted.

Your example is what scares me. Greatest qb of all time did it, so of course Watson can do it!

Obrien has already proven that he believes he can get more out of guys than their talent indicates. He is searching for Brady.

You mean watch two games of his career, not game film. Game film tells you something different than you are pretending

THE metric is the guy is a stone cold winner, a natural born leader and will, like Watt, become the heart and soul of the franchise.
The Will To Be Great is what makes a transcendent athlete.

Physically, he reminds me of Warren Moon.

I just love how everybody runs to Waston intangible before all else see Tebow and Young. That's half of what is needed to be at least a good QB. Also Alabama as a measuring is the same as using the Patriots as a measuring stick. If Bama if the measuring stick I'd taken Chad Kelly in the later rounds over him. Well at least Watson won't have to play this year hopefully and has last on full year of holding the clipboard. Also hope Watson proves me wrong and at least it did not cost arm and leg to move up to get him.

Watt had the measurable athletic talent as well. Yes his drive has helped make him transcendent, but he has bigly measurables.

I saw Watt in the Rose Bowl vs. TCU amd I saw Watson in the Championship game.
Who do you think was more impressive?

( I would have gone another way but I understand and am pretty happy with the Watson pick... it settles the question for 5 years)

More believable had he not gotten sent home from the combine or failed the drug test IMO.

Here's the problem with semtex... He created some analytic measurement/calculation that retroactively fits all the top QBs into a category... So that he can then say, "see, my analysis works!!".
