I think overreacting one way or the other to this trade and selection is kind of insane. There's a lot of randomness to picking the right guy at QB through the draft in this league. Brady, Romo and Prescott became studs, while dozens of first round QBs turned into nothing. This kid could be a star, or he could be a total bust and everything in between. I have literally zero preconceived notions about what I think of Watson as an NFL QB right now, but I'll acknowledge that they finally actually took a chance on draft day. You can't always go vanilla on draft day, just sit there and take the BPA every year and expect to get lucky. Great teams often become great by taking chances. This could lead to legitimate contention or it could set the team back 4-5 years and lead with them in the bottom five in a few seasons. But I'll take it either way over a guarantee of 8-8 or 9-7 every season for the next decade.
I'm waiting for the report that Mahomes was the first choice but we got jumped for him and settled on Watson. I don't personally have a preference but that'd be so Texans. I'd like to know that Watson was their man all along.
Bobby is already trashing our QB. Can't wait until he calls him a "running back" next season. That's just what bad fans do.
my biggest concern with watson is his understanding of grasping the chinese backwards brady playbook. Arm strength can be hidden with a west coast style offense, bootleg roll out, ohh we don't have that anymore. crap. Got to go Oline with 2nd. What I'm curious is would they have drafted mahomes if KC doesn't leap forward to grab him?
They said on the Texans twitter all day they wanted Watson (literally). I don't think they need to trade up to get him if Trubisky at #12 is the first QB off the board, as I saw in most mocks
Let's hope that doesn't end up being the case. We know he's got a really terrible pass velocity, hopefully his legs aren't the best things about him, but it could happen.
Basing your evaluation on two games is exactly the type of thing stupid people do. Even homer John Texan Harris is worried his arm velocity will hurt him in the NFL. You hear a lot of the same excuses for him you hear for other "winners" that never do anything: "not a strong arm but..." "low velocity on throws but..." and he excuse is always something about his toughness or try hard or leaderships or something like that. I like those things too, but they very rarely overcome a lack of physical skills. Now there's a report out there that basically no other team had him in the first.
I don't think they are in love with, they just know they need more talent at qb, and watson represents that. But again, they got the 3rd qb off the board. So, it's the texans
