It's not against China nor Mexico, Agent Orange's punching bags during his presidential campaign. it's against US's largest trading partner, Canada http://money.cnn.com/2017/04/24/investing/canada-lumber-tariff-trump/ His administration is hitting several Canadian lumber firms with stiff tariffs of up to 24% on lumber shipped into the United States. Other than saying that the tariffs will likely take effect starting sometime next week, he Commerce Department didn't say why they went after Canada.. It said the duties were commensurate to the subsidies the companies received from the Canadian government. The US and Canada are the world's biggest trading partners. Canada’s response to Secretary Ross’s announcement was prompt and robust: The Government of Canada disagrees strongly with the U.S. Department of Commerce’s decision to impose an unfair and punitive duty. The accusations are baseless and unfounded The Government of Canada will vigorously defend the interests of the Canadian softwood lumber industry, including through litigation. In ruling after ruling since 1983, international tribunals have disproved the unfounded subsidy and injury allegations from the U.S. industry. We have prevailed in the past and we will do so again. It pointed out that the biggest losers from this tariffs will be US consumers and workers.
YES! We should use up all the American trees before accepting sucky foreign trees, with the darker wood. Just one redwood alone can probably make like a thousand coat hangers, the grade-A wooden kind. Haven't you ever been to a country where they cut down all the trees, like China? It's cool coz they plant all the new trees in rows and it doesn't look messy like nature does. Plus I like dust storms way better than other types of storms, and North America has way too many forest species. I can't hardly name half of those gay little bugs and birds.
My god this is pure stupidity from Trump's Secretary Ross. I suppose our policy on everything will be chest-puffing and blustery poses with no consideration of consequence. I'd hate to see Trump's team try to play chess with anyone. "Ha! I took that pawn! Wait... what are you doing? ... What? ... No fair! Do over! Not fair! Ridiculous rules for this ridiculous game!"
