This guy has made sense over the year and he nails it here, Harden is not the explosive, flashy one but still the better player. Not sure Bird vs. Dr J is accurate, but I get it.
Cool clip, but unfortunately Cowherd makes a living on hot, contrarian takes. So his endorsement effectively proves that Westbrook is the consensus MVP.
In most cases the consensus is wrong, so I'll take it that the smart analysts take Harden as their MVP.
It seems like an almost guarantee that Westbrook is going to win MVP this year. It is also a guarantee that if the Thunder called me and offered to trade me Westbrook for Harden straight up I would laugh and say no way.
Years ago there was an active site called Pundittracker that tracked pundits bold predictions. Colin Cowherd was consistently one of the highest rated Pundits and was very accurate in his 'takes' in 2013. Not sure if he's kept that up. He still pisses me off sometimes
I was about to comment exactly this. Cowherd makes money of saying the exact opposite of what most people are thinking. Sadly this probably means Russ is gonna get it. Even with the Harden endorsement, this guy's really annoying. He literally said Bird couldn't dunk 2 seconds before a clip of Bird dunking played.
I was watching PTI yesterday when Frank Isola and Mike Wilbon brought up the fact that the MVP race is over since the votes are in and the NBA regular season is in the books... Here comes Wilbon "well game 1 performance also didn't matter because Harden OBVIOUSLY has the better team". Dude! Are they kidding me with this sh**, again Curry obviously had the better team when he won it and that didn't have any affect on his MVP title, Harden has the better team because he actually makes the players around him better. Isn't that what a MVP is supposed to be about, assisting the entire team in raising their level of play. I don't care what they say Harden should be the MVP, its not his fault the Thunder players aren't as cohesive as our squad and that their best player is a selfish little ballhogging b****.
Can't wait to see all the votes out so we can group the scrubs like Shelburne, Wilbon etc together and show how the better analysts all voted for Harden...or Leonard.
Ironic a contrarian would have a show called The Herd. He must have developed his contrarian proclivity from not wanting to be part of the cow herd as a kid, then learned to embrace his name later.
Yeah, Cowherd seems to be "right" his fair share, but he's also wrong his fair share as well. HEY!!! That describes everybody!! Although the "experts" in sports seem like they are wrong more often than right. I generally stopped listening to him because right or wrong, I just don't care for his style. But as I've listened to other folks/stations/teams over the last few years as well, I realize many of these guys either suck, or simply wear you down. Like SAS. Like Le Batard. Like Bomani. Like Mad Dog. There were periods where I liked them all, but most of them I don't care for anymore and would probably listen to Cowherd above them. That said, the one guy who I do like and have continued to like is Adam Schein, Schein on Sports. My XM subscription ended like a month ago and I haven't decided to renew yet, so don't know if there's another way I can listen to Schein. But he's basically 100% about sports and doesn't veer off into politics, or entertainment. He holds some strong opinions but he also is open to listening to everyone and admits when he's wrong. He takes a good mix of callers, guests, monologues. It's just a pure sports show about pure sports. I kind of like the Russilo/Kanell show sometimes. And when I had XM I was always entertained by the NBA Radio channel. The Justine Termine / Eddie Johnson schtick got old but still always entertained me. And they talk about the NBA all the time... what's not to like?? Cowherd generally dislikes primadonnas. He generally values winning over all else. He generally hates it or recognizes hypocrisy pretty quick - in this case the hypocrisy of the media crushing Westbrook for the last few years only to turn around the second KD leaves and love him for some unknown reason. I think he's been pretty good at his NFL picks over the years. But then he thought Clemson was going to get crushed. And after Game 1 of Boston/Bulls he's all aboard the Celtics should have traded for Jimmy Butler wagon (which may be true, but it's 1 game, and Butler does little to address the fact the Celtics continue to get crushed on the boards).
This has been his take on harden vs Russ all year. And the jinx thing is stupid, Rockets are just a lot better than okc. We should act more like golden state and Cleveland fans. Thy always think there going to win no matter what. We need that attitude, FU okc you won't win another game all season is my motto.
I remember Colin Cowherd talking mad sh*t about Harden a couple of years ago, saying he was nothing more than another Carmelo Anthony. Then I remember him talking about how good players don't celebrate after a shot (referring to Harden's stirring the pot gesture).
lol yeah I noticed yesterday on I believe sportscenter or one of their shows and one of the chicks and some guy were talking about the game and I think the first thing she mentioned was something along the lines of... so doesn't this game just prove that everyone who voted for Westbrook for MVP is right? His team is no good... blah blah blah It's as if they are trying to soften the blowback that they(ESPN and it's many Russ supporters) are going to get if/when Harden and The Rockets dominate this series.
The comparison was broken down accurately in the video. Bird/Harden are more skilled and make their teammates better, but less athletic.
