Part of the contract of carriage is that passengers have to comply with the members of the flight crew, if you fail to do so, you are in violation of the terms of the contract of carriage. Those orders do not have to be security related because when you read the contract of carriage you'll notice that they mention security directives separately from mentioning that you have to comply with the orders of the flight crew.

You are simply wrong about all of this. Re-read my previous post. The airline violated the contract of carriage here. They had no right to arbitrarily order this passenger off the plane at that point.

If the deregulation of the airline industry years ago is a preview of what we are about to get in virtually every other industry getting deregulated we sure are in for a treat as consumers.

The least shocking news of the day is that the guy who was drug off of the plane is a multiple felon with "interpersonal problems" who was noted to often ignore rules and "unilaterally choose to do his own thing."

It always just so happens to be people like that that end up in situations like this and then play the victim. It does make sense that he wanted to get back home so badly though, in 2005 he was convicted of writing scripts and giving out drugs for sex and he just got his medical license back in 2015 and can only practice medicine one day a week.....he's got tons of scripts to write and patients to sleep with. I wouldn't want to have to stay in a hotel with my wife another night either.

Many people will be fully refundable tickets, especially business travelers. Assume 10 passengers buy a fully refundable ticket (they pay a premium so that $300 ticket may cost them $800). So, if those 10 cancel, then the airline has 10 open seats and do not have any money to show for it as the tickets were fully refundable.

That being said, this particular flight was not overbooked according to United's statement today.

UA abuse the overbooking contract rule for a non-overbooking case. Essentially they publicly robbed the all 4 passengers who were sent off the plane. They deliberately misled the security guards. The other passengers has to witness a horrible crime scene and got delayed for 2 hours.

Everyone on that plane should be able to sue UA, including the security who might lose his job.

Ah yes, it's like someone pulls a gun on you in the street and steals the 50 bucks in your wallet while giving you 300 bucks. It's just unacceptable.

Only thing that would make Bobbythegreat happier is if they were dragging Terrence Jones off the plane.

Didn't know he was such a crusader for the airlines.

We can pretend that the guy was a bum sleeping on a sidewalk and that the employees worked for the Rockets if it makes you feel better.....

Democrats should use this as an example of what will happen to internet now that Republicans are in control.

Not national enough, don't impact the middle class enough (assuming you're talking about Flint). Sadly, we are all some shades of selfish. Most people can't relate to Flint, but they do remember being stranded at an airport.

Most people voting age also remember when internet sucks, Democrats should play the whole remember how bad it used to be, or every-time the internet you're Netflix/Hulu/WWE/Youtube/Pr0n is buffering..... Republicans.

What ignorant logic. You are suggesting the airline should hold a proceeding to determine who's reason for the flight should be deemed least worthy. At this point, we all become doctors who need to perform life threatening surgery at midnight. If I have a valid ticket, its just as valid as anyone elses on the flight, regardless of reason.

Cancellations happen for a hundred different reasons. Mother nature is not going to stop her fury because a dr has to see patients. If your flight is that important, deal with it before hand.

If you have 4 crew members needing to be somewhere, don't sell those seats.

    Simple, right?

So I'm suppose be taking the side of a company whose principal business is dealing with logistics (and fuel prices) when they can't get their acts together on their own logistics?

LOL, only from the mind (using that term charitably here) of a conservative.

    Deregulation...free market...mumble jumble....

Who knows what those 4 crew members were needed for. Maybe they were 2 crews of pilots flying 600 doctors to Africa. Its irrelevant why the seats were asked to be given up. Just like everything else in this story.

If a snow storm prevented everyone from making their flight, nobody would have cared.

The moral of the story is that its just not that big of a deal. People like you are being whipped up by the media sensation of the story. People like yourself are too busy arguing whether he had a right or not, as if we are all suppose to whip out hundreds of pages of legal documentation to determine whether he should stay aboard.

Not every story needs a good guy and bad guy. Sometimes they are all bad guys.

He wasn't being arrested and those weren't police officers dealing with him.
