You've been against him the entire time and insinuating he was a douchebag prior to knowing anything about his history.
It seems some here believe we should hold a court proceeding on the plane before escorting any one off.
Well, that legal expert makes it pretty cut and dry. United is ficked, wrong on everything they did. Good to see the legal expert say it was unlawful to ask the man to leave, so they say clearly that the Rule 21 Safety clause requiring compliance with crew ordering him to leave does not apply. They can't make you do something that they aren't allowed to request. I'm sure I would have complied with the unlawful order, and not ever known I could sue them for illegally asking me to comply with their order to leave. I'm sure the other three passengers who complied with the unlawful order are grateful that the felon was right and their ability to sue became public knowledge to them. That said, if I risk losing money or vacation plans with wife and kids, mom on a dying bed visit, or important speech at a funeral, or I'm due at an hugely important closing competitive sales meeting the next morning, I might not want to comply, and now I know I don't have to because their order was illegal. And now they know they better not escalate and try to force me into peaceful submission, as it will get recorded.
takes one to know one. on the irrelevance of the guy's background: https://ethicsalarms.com/2017/04/11...nalists-and-others-smearing-victim-david-dao/
What do his past actions matter? Only an absolute loser would be on the side of United right now. Regardless of your opinion, this guy is gonna walk away with a **** ton of money
Yes, that is exactly whats going to happen. Until the airlines revise their policy. You all keep jumping to whether his rights were violated or not. When the crew call security, security is not going to come in and have a court intervention and hearing and then walk off and tell the passenger to have a good day. They are going to remove the passenger regardless. Its one thing for him to negotiate his right to stay at the time of requested removal, but once security was involved, he should have got his ass off the plane peacefully. And demanded the airline to rent him a vehicle for his 4 1/2 hour drive from Chi to Louiseville if it was that important to him.
And conversely, if it was that important to the airline, they could have rented a vehicle for the 4 1/2 hour drive for their flight crew. In the end they would have made it quicker than the plane did.
His past actions don't matter, but they do help explain his current actions. You can be happy that an awful person is going to make a lot of money by being an awful person, but it doesn't make that person any better.
He was assaulted by this loser company. ANYONE deserves to recover damages from such a ridiculous interaction. Using his past again him is childish and stupid. He sat there and refused to move, I would have done the exact same thing, as should ANYBODY in that situation.
Well, there are three other passengers whose rights were violated, too. I don't really care about his ability to win a court case, which seems cut and dry. Or that the other three compliant passengers can now rightly sue as well. I care that now I know my rights. Aren't you the least bit interested to also know now what your rights are in such a situation. I get it that people don't like to see whiners force security to get so forceful, and that most all people wouldn't do that. But now we all know that they are 100% in the wrong to ask us to leave our rightful seat, security now knows too, and we have a better chance of peacefully talking them out of making that mistake again, or recording it as we leave, and then dealing with it from a position of better legal knowledge once we deplane. Not sure what your continued point is other than saying people shouldn't force, forceful compliance (even if illegal orders). I'm fine agreeing with you on that. OK? But had it not happened, I could easily see the other three passengers (or me) never really knowing their rights, and just walking away with nothing but a flight the next day, when what United did to them was illegal...without realizing we could sue them for more based on inconvenience, lost day, whateva.
The man did not deserve to have what happened to him, but who acts like that? All the screaming and whining and then the weird run back on the plane saying 'just kill me' over and over again. The dude has some mental health issues that need to be addressed.
And nobody did. One guy asked to bump up the price, but they refused. Police/Authority was not needed. But the manager was being an idiot.
And I would hope the same thing would have happened to you if you did the same, just like I would hope that happened to anyone that acted like that in that situation. Let's face it, the types of people who cause scenes like that are nearly always people that need their ass kicked in the first place that's why I just can't feel bad for them. If that's how you act.....well I feel bad for anyone that has to associate with you. I would be ashamed of anyone I know who acted that way be it the selling drugs for sex or the being an ******* to airline employees who are just trying to do their jobs to provide for their families. When jobs suck, it's almost always due to people just like this jackass.
