In this case, the college continued with the event and even posted it on their website.

What more do you want with free speech? Suppress their funding so they can't afford to do anything?

I didn't imply that. My question was very specific.

I see a lot of things classified as one-offs here at work, and I was curious what the cut-off is when it keeps happening.

first, people wanted to see the speech in person to ask questions and couldn't. Second, the speech was cut short because the rioters were banging on the windows and trying to break in. Police deemed it too unsafe to continue. Blocking a student form entering a building is against school policy and illegal. these people should all be expelled and/or arrested.

Likely at the same time when the nation can seriously talk about our monthly gun shootings in public spaces.

Not for a damn long time. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't disagree with the protesters/rioters being punished.

I'm alluding to the OP calling for Congress to cut off funding to those universities with the ostensible guise of speech rights. It's not the case where the college hid their heads in shame and turned away the speaker.

As things got out of hand, it's their call on whether the environment would be safe enough to continue, lest they get sued for negligence or some other bs.

Don't you think the school should decide how to discipline students as it sees fit? The goal of the school isn't to protect free speech, it's to provide the best academic learning environment. The school states it did not remove students for safety reasons but that it was reviewing footage and planning disciplinary action. What is it that you are complaining about here?

I support hate speech. Hate speech is protected speech and like all ideas, it needs to stand the scrutiny of others. Branding anyone with offensive ideas as too taboo to all to to heard at all pushes them into the shadows, giving them and their supporters more cover, and more mystique,if anything.

This. You can't support free speech and not support hate speech. Some liberals seem to have forgotten this in their attempt to create a better world.

Uh, isn't Claremont McKenna a private school?
It's not like they're public and have to put up with these Christian assholes:

I just looked it up -- it is indeed private.
