I used to think all of us here at CF shared the same sentiments as well.

Apparently to win MVP you have to capture ESPN attention, their slant and their ability to pull the headlines and stats to support their opinions. Only looking at triple doubles without wins, seeding, efficiency, and most important team leadership. Not to downplay what Westbrick has accomplished, I just see him jacking up shots (6-25), his teammates boxes out for his rebounds, and the stat padding. OKC is not a top 4 seeded team. In the end my opinion means nothing.

Harden has led the Rockets to the 3rd best record in the entire NBA.

    Westbrook?

    The 10th best.

Oh but those salivating triple doubles *rolls eyes*

"Since the 82-83 season, every MVP winner was from a team that won at least 50 games in the regular season that year."

Harden will win the MVP this year.

Westbrook has the 10th best record in the NBA. Has any MVP ever been seeded that low overall?

Right. Who wins the MVP depends on the definition of MVP. But everyone's definition is different.

Who wins the MVP also depends on perception, a.k.a. media conspiracy. But everyone's perception is different.

So MVP is a highly subjective thing. It's just slightly more objective than a beauty pageant.

up until this season MVP has sorta had an unwritten rule of best player / best season / on a top 4 team.

a bunch of guys have had all-time great seasons but did not win mvp due to lack of team success.

kobe in 2005-06 averaged 35.4 ppg. and lost the mvp because the lakers only won 45 games.

curry in 2015 had a pretty unremarkable season for an MVP but team success carried him over the top.

so of course james is looking around like "WTF, ya'll screwed me out of awards and accolades because of lack of team success, now i have that argument on my side and now yall like who cares?!?!?!"

No. But Kareem did win with a losing record (40-42) and 9th best (tied). I think that's worse.

Moses Malone was actually tied for 7th best record in NBA. Three teams were tied with 46 wins/ (HOU was 6th seed, but record was 4th-tied in the West). Jordan was also tied for 7th best in his first MVP -- 50 wins.

Harden should've been like "Two years ago they told me winning was the most important thing, guess that's changed"

Gotta feel for the guy tho, he probably doesn't care that much but it's hard not imagining Harden screaming in his mind "WHAT EXACTLY THE F*** DO I NEED TO DO TO WIN THIS THING??"

Harden needs to work on his reply game. He could savage the media and expose the blatant hypocrisy with a couple sentences a night.

It's like when the senate up and changed the rules to confirm Gorsuch for the supreme court.

Sorry I'm not going to be liked here but I think Harden is doing a huge mistake focusing on that MVP race. It just looks bad, like he's begging for it. Not so swaggy.
I was with him all the way but the past month or so tipped it towards Westbrook.
Harden looked banged up and tired and kept on playing meaningless games heavy minutes to pad up the stats. The team did not look so smooth and committed, while Westbrook looked more focused, OKC racked up a lot of wins and looked better.
I'm actually afraid to get them in the 1st round.
I think Harden deserved it more in 2015 than he does now to be honest.
Now go out there and destroy them as a team in the playoff.

Moses Malone won it as tied for 6th in wins...
I started doing research on my own as well. Bob Pettit won while being 7th out of 8 teams, but he led the league in points and rebounds. Westbrook isn't leading in rebounds or assists or double doubles. That 42 triple doubles is remarkable though. All while leading the league in scoring.

I think Harden deserves the MVP, but Westbrook deserves some such accolade. The truth is that Harden should have beat Curry for the MVP a few years ago. Look at this:

    27.4 ppg / 7.0 assists / 5.7 rebounds
    vs
    23.8 ppg / 7.7 assists / 4.3 rebounds ****winner of the MVP

That kills me right there. MVP race isn't all it's cracked up to be. James just has to win that chip and the league will respect him from fans to refs to media on down.

They just don't want to give it to Harden...Westbrick MVP makes no sense...none!! The triple doubles aren't even impressive..his teammates are letting him have it!!
