If I recall he didn't actually look bad. He was just super heavily scrutinized. The glove thing. Not a Favre/Rogers arm strength. He still hit most of the throws. Or more to the point we knew nothing more or less about him after that day. Same with Mahomes.
He got hammered for the gloves and some inaccuracy especially on deep routes. Also he got hit for the ball fluttering a lot showing that he didn't really have enough arm strength. All of those things ended up being problems in his short NFL career.
Hackenburg looked really bad at his pro day last year. Missed receivers completely and bad ball placement on quite a few throws.
True. I guess I'll revise my point lol. These days are useful at the margins. Someone who performs badly is likely to not be a good NFL QB. Not sure the reverse is true though.
The lack of arm strength is what kept him from being taken at the top of the draft. He had all the intangibles and showed the ability to understand defenses. However it is nearly impossible to overcome his arm strength issues. His hands were not going to get bigger; and he wasn't going to greatly improve throwing the deep ball. Hackenberg also showed poor poise. It only furthered the narrative that he couldn't handle stress. Maholmes needs a lot of work; but has shed the strike against him that he doesn't work hard.
Funny, I heard an analysis on the radio yesterday just opposite of the above post. I'm warming to it, not who I would take at 25 but I wouldn't hate it.
That's worthless analysis. So during scripted throwing, coaches thought he was "forcing everything". Lol.
NOPE. The mountain of scouting reports and videos posted above clearly demonstrates he has no understanding of pocket passing; bad footwork, leaving the pocket too early, throwing off-balance, poor mechanics, etc. His gunslinger abilities are not enough to run an offense under center at the next level.
I'm starting to get bummed about the prospect of him even being available now. I really wanted us to draft him too.
