I agree, there was a shift from "you did your best, johnny, even if you came up short" to "you are the best johnny, at whatever you do".
That's absolutely part of the problem. Kids were brought up thinking that they are special no matter what, that they are a beautiful and unique snowflake.....even if they are a little b*stard that is awful. When you do that, you are going to raise a generation full of terrible people and that's what has happened. It's also not necessarily a new thing, there were parents who did that in the past and ended up raising terrible people who then went on to raise terrible people. What is new is the high percentage of people who raise their children in this manner and the fact that raising awful little bastards is now culturally acceptable.
lol, maybe? But I was well aware when my best wasn't THE best. Remarkably, it wasn't competitive sports that really brought the point home but UIL music competitions for All-State choir. I figured out by my freshman year that I was a middling offensive lineman at best and that I had a far better chance at scholarship money in music than football.
BTW, I'm not hammering millennials or participation trophys...kids are special and unique in their own ways. I grew up at the YMCA and was an after school counselor and day camp counselor during the summer. I saw a range and always gravitated to the kids who felt left out or not cool enough, guess that's why I'm a lib. But just because johnny isn't the best at dodge ball or 4-square doesn't mean he can't be good at something else and doesn't need to be told he's the best when he's not. You celebrate when they do THEIR best, that's worthy and healthy IMHO. My son will never be a great athlete, I won't delude him about his prowess. But he might be a great communicator in most any medium or a writer, or whatever he chooses to do and do well....boy, I do sound old, thankfully not 50 years ago old yet!
For the vast majority of the people, doing something special will not pay you back, examples include music, sports, arts, etc. You can treat those as hobbies, but not as a profession, that is why education is so important, if you are average in so many fields, you would be just fine select that as your career. What are the chances of someone joining NFL, NBA, PGA, becoming Hollywood stars, etc, slim to none, and slim just left the room.
I know the term has been used in the past to refer to uniqueness or a self-perception thereof. But it's been heavily recycled in current communications with specific references to social and racial politics. No surprise you're too ****ing stupid to tell the difference.
You'd have been better off just admitting that you said something stupid rather than saying another stupid thing in a feeble effort to justify your first stupid statement. When you say that someone "coins a phrase" you are saying that they essentially invented that phrase......so you can't then say that you know that it's an old phrase that has been used forever. I'm sure you think you are smart enough to know that so cut the BS. It has nothing to do with "racial politics" it's just something that is said more often now because it's applicable more often. Personally I think that maybe people should use "whiny little b****es" instead of "snowflakes", but so long as it is applicable, I don't have a problem with it.
No, either the term can be new, the context in which it's used. In the case of a meme, it can be a familiar phrase that's just newly attributed to a specific person or event. I can see you clinging to this like a life-raft, so just have a good evening. beating your wife and kids or planning your church shooting.
And none of those are the case here. It's the same term used for the same reason it has always been used. Good job kid, you have now made 3 stupid posts in a row about this when you could have stopped at one.
Bobby is a unique animal. He kinda has this shtick where he pretends to be the arbitrator of truth and doesn't take a side, but then slips in these passive aggressive attacks on liberals wherever he can. It's intriguing to watch him post and attack people 10 times smarter and wiser (and likely older) as "kid" Dude projects *a lot* Of course he can't see that because he needed a safe space and had to put me on ignore to protect his fragile mental state. Just want to point out that my boys threw away any trophy that was not first place. Carry on snowflakes. DD
