The playoffs are about too start and I don't care about MVP anymore.

I do think harden deserves it and should win but the playoffs is we're your rep is made.

And my gut feeling is the rockets are going to turn it up another level.

Anytime houston this season has been locked in totally focused they Have looked like the second best team in the league.

We've seen multiple 8-10 and Stretches this season of houston playing at a top 2 offense and top 6 defense.

Rockets are going to dust okc in the 1st round and bring it to the Spurs and then everyone will see what we have seen all year..... that harden is the real MVP and the rockets are the 2nd best team in the league.

Harden had his chance in 2015 to get revenge on Curry. Didn't go well. I do not hope Westbrook gets it.

Harden actually outplayed curry in 3/5 games that series.

Comparing okc to that warriors team that won the championship is a little silly.

If Westbrook wins it averaging a triple double that is not screwing Harden over.

Yes it is... Harden's team has the better record. Plain and simple.

    Explain 2014 MVP year then?

    Yea.

Yes it is. 6th seeds are getting MVP's now? Harden averages 2 less rpg and has almost 10 more wins with no other all star on his team. What more does he have to do?

No, it is not screwing someone over - I think they are both deserving of it - it is not like one guy clearly is having a much better season - this is a case where 2 guys are having amazing seasons and either is deserving.

    It is an individual award....

To be clear - I think Kawhii should be in there too....but he doesn't get the buzz that Westbrook and Harden do...and defense is not accounted for in these deals, because if you counted both ends of the court Leonard would win it hands down.

    *Morning talk shows/talking heads*
    Triple-double
    Harden has more help
Harden is a product of D'Antoni so his stats are "inflated"
    Did I mention triple-double?
And just in case you missed in the first two times, triple-double

    YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWNNNNNNNN

I'm glad this over with. :)

    Agreed.

The season has been dominated by MVP talk. **** all of that. We overachieved. Let's focus on what we can do in the postseason.

The MVP talk has somewhat polluted what is a special season this year. Back in November/December, the team was just amazing. Playing amazing team basketball, and none of this BS was being debated then.

I feel the team is making it a prerogative to solely focus on getting Harden the MVP. I wish we could go back to the winning ways of earlier in the season.

Also, how sweet would it be to make a significant push in the playoffs and knock WB out in the first round. It would just be poetic justice. I want to stay underdogs.

Why do we care so damn much about an individual accolade?

Why can't winning the MVP also give him more motivation as well?

if Harden doesn't get the MVP, then winning is irrelevant in future MVP talk....

I don't want to hear the media bring up the top 4 seed ever again

Looks like he is playing tonight. Says wrist "is what it is". Sick of his selfish ways for not sitting his MVP case and hurting this team by being inefficient and risking more injury.

It's not selfish. There are still things on the line. The 3rd seed is not locked up yet. And the 3rd best record overall is up for grabs as well. If those are done deals by the weekend and Harden is still suiting up, then we've got something to complain about.

Jazz are gonna lose a game even if we don't win one for the rest of the season. Right now rest isn't key for him. 3rd is locked up!

I'm sure my fandom will be questioned... but it's not like DRob stole the award. he was a dominant beast of a player that year in the regular season. I mean Hakeem was also... but the Spurs were 50 games ahead of the Rockets ... which of course supports this year's Harden for MVP narrative I agree with.

In any case, one can hope Harden performs in the playoffs against Westbrook the way Hakeem did against DRob.

You base that prediction on what? This is Utah's remaining schedule:

    Minnesota
    at Portland
    at Golden State
    San Antonio

The T'Wolves in Salt Lake should be an easy win for the Jazz. A B2B at Portland seemed like a tough situation a week ago, but now with Nurkic injured, it's a tossup. Then they visit the Warriors and you would assume that's an automatic loss especially if Durant is back in the lineup. Except that Golden State has literally nothing to play for at this point and could potentially be resting some guys(Green and Iggy are skipping the Suns game tonight for example). And then the Spurs visit Salt Lake which is a tossup and again may be an easy game for Utah if Pop decides to rest guys since they'll also have nothing to play for in that one.

Nothing is locked up til it's a mathematical certainty. The Rockets late in the 2011-12 season were a 96% lock to make the postseason til they collapsed down the stretch and wound up in the lottery. Beat the Nuggets(or Pistons if you can't knock off Denver) and clinch the 3rd seed officially. THEN figure out if/when to buy Harden some rest.

Well, let's not overstate MDA's impact either. I think impact is shared. I mean it's not like the Rockets weren't already trending towards the offensive style they currently run. I credit, in no particular order:

    1. Harden. Bought in to playing PG - this is a bigger deal than most make out. Say he is the PG for the next 5-10 years. How will he be remembered? What will his peer group be - PGs, SGs? What if it didn't work. Etc. Plus Harden's play of course.

    2. MDA: Perfect coach for the system. Implementing the system. Actually being able to draw up a legit inbound play.

    3. Dwight Howard: In the sense that he left. Whatever you think about his potential value, he was a complete drain on the team last year. His passive aggressiveness. His need for the ball in the post. His FT's and all the hack-a's (I mean seriously, think back on that, so so so so annoying as a fan and I suspect as a teammate). Clogging up the offense. being much less than he used to be defensively. I think the Rockets got better simply with Dwight leaving. bear in mind they captured the #2 season the prior year with Dwight injured most of the time.

    4. DM: Probably "lucked" into it a bit, especially considering plan A was Al Horford and Bazemore (which still should have worked but wouldn't have been quite the fit for this system), but EG and Ryno just fit this system well. Nene has been more than hoped for. Williams pick-up has been hit or miss, but is a great move regardless.
